Hey everyone.

I just bought a box of CCI Velocitor, and was suprised when the woman said $4.79. (BTW it seemed she knew this stuff pretty well) I paid it anyway, and when I got out to the truck, I noticed a little sticker on the box. It says "10 cents ammunition tax". Whats up with this?

Also, it is just me or is WalMart rising the prices on just about everything? Before tax, the ammo was $4.28, and back in Kansas City I though it was in the $3.50-$4.00 range?

As a resident of TN, I love my state, but the tax issue is really starting to get to me as well....

Really starts to add up over time..... :banghead:

I guess Texas already has a sales tax so I guess it amounts to the same thing.

ammo in tn

Look at the reciept as well, (from Tn )there will be something specific on it with regards to the ammo, the wal marts in Ms,do not have this added charge, some one told me it was an enviromental money charge or some thing.

Just curious, the places where there's an additional entry on the reciept, do those ammo boxes have stamps on them?

It may be a way around buying books of tax stamps, having it done automatically per box sold via computer...

Mine has a green and white stamp on the side of the box, as well as a box of ammo my friend has.

Does this tax include the purchase of firearms?

Ammo Tax

This tax is ammo specific and is not charged on guns, period. And if you sell ammo in TN it BETTER have a tax stamp on it. And yes, every box MUST have a stamp, there is NO way around it. I was a gun show vendor in TN for a little over 2 years and have seen people drug out of the show in cuffs for selling without the stamp. Sucks, but that's the way it is. I'm not sure exactly what the fine is for selling without the stamp, but I heard it was $10 per BULLET. Don't qoute me on the fine because that was rumor mill.

I believe that the tax goes to fund the wildlife/hunting programs in TN.

As for buying out of state via online vendors... I have never seen any tax stamps on the ammo I've bought online.

I'd bet that the law that originally authorized the tax had no provisions for out of state purchases.
