Hi all,

I have been trying to work up a load for the 75 grain speer gold dot bullets, and am now trying five different powders to see which works the best. They are: Varget, H335, Power Pro 2000MR, N140, and CFE 223. The problem is, the Lee reloading manual recommends different max loads than Speer's own data. For example, Lee's data says 25 grains of Varget is max, and Speer's data says 23.6 is the max charge weight. I'm just wondering whose data is correct? Thank you all in advance!

I would have to go with speer, as it is their bullet vs Lee's generic bullet data. It least this is my theory, but I was wrong twice before.

Both datasets are correct; the error is your assumption that they should match.

Lab-to-lab, chamber-to-chamber, brass-to-brass, and batch-to-batch (powder and bullet) variations exist, and all that's before we get to your rifle, components, etc.. The datasets reflect results in a lab, on a day, in a chamber. . . none of which are yours.

You should start low-to-mid, and work up, while paying attention.

You have run into the standard conundrum have expecting the book to provide you an answer. The loading manuals provide you safe starting guidelines for reloading. Spend a lot of time researching and learning about pressure signs, and then do your own work up to validate a Max load in your rifle.
