I was shooting some clay targets with a buddy the other day and he was having trouble with his 870 ejecting. He is more of a hunter than a gun guy so I offered to clean his shotgun thinking that might be his trouble. Once I got it home, I noticed that the extractor plunger is stuck about two thirds of the way back. It is not far enough back that I can get the extractor out. I have hit it with penetrating oil and tried to break it loose with a screwdriver. No luck with anything yet. Any ideas on how to proceed?

Give the penetrating oil time to work and/or use a different type. Kroil and atf/acetone are the best. Then take a small punch and tap the plunger further into the bolt. Keep oiling and tapping, eventually the plunger will free up.

I use a strong magnet and it seems pretty hand for immediate gratification.

Great news, kind of. I got the plunger down far enough to get the extractor out, but the plunger is stuck in the depressed position. I have Kroil soaking down into it now.
