870 questions

I just bought a used 870 express magnum with with a new cantilevered rifled barrel for $300. The shotgun is in pretty good condition. Do you guys think this is a good deal? I am pretty happy with it, but I have not fired it yet.

Also what is the difference between a 870 express and a 870 express magnum?

$300 isn't a steal nor a ripoff. You've got a good slug gun there. Adding a smoothbore barrel with choke tubes will give you a setup suitable for stuff from Squirrels to Sasquatch.

The difference between an Express and an Express Magnum is just the lettering on the receiver. All Expresses in 12 gauge take 3" shells.

I'd check what the barrel says on that...... maybe he got a really old Express?

It came with a 28" field barrel and a mod. choke (forgot to state that).
It does say magnum on the receiver.

$300 for an Express with two barrels is a good deal. Get a couple more choke tubes, and BA/UU/R. Enjoy!!
