How long does it take the Department of Agriculture to issue you a license in Florida? I looked at the website and it says that they have up to 90 days, I hope it is much less than that. If you live in the state of Florida or have a ccw permit, how long did it take you to get it?

Miguel, when I applied in 2004, for my permit, it took just about 60 days. I just renewed and received my permit in 10 days. I would give them a call after 60 days to check on your status.

In 2006 it took less than two weeks. Tip: Get finger printed where they do it electronically it speeds up the process.
My first renewal was also under two weeks, more like 10 days.

Mine, in 2008, took maybe a month. I renewed in person in 2015, walking out of the office with the new card.

It won't take ninety days, but whatever it does take is what you are stuck with. Send it in, already. ;)

I went to the Department of Agriculture on 2/17/20 with my certificate and completed the application on the computer there. I paid the fee, took the electronic fingerprints and my picture. Then, I checked the status the next day (2/18) and they said it was received and being processed. Do they notify you via email or just regular mail? I am so excited I can hardly wait, I am like a kid on Christmas eve, waiting to open my presents, I guess I just have to be more patient. I've been using my firearm on the range, bought a cleaning kit and cleaned my gun for the first time last Monday, it was fun. I got a nice Beretta hard case that fits under my driver's SUV. I want to somehow lock the case while is under the seat in case someone breaks in so the gun doesn't get stolen. I don't want to buy a holster and keep it in the holster because the hard case can be locked somehow to the seat, I was thinking about a cable lock.

Well you shouldn't leave the gun in the car except fort a short period to go into a store or whatever. If someone breaks into you car, a cable lock is not gonna slow them down any.
Plus if the gun is locked in a box under the seat you have no way to use it for self defense. One last time, I know you have several threads going on this but the gun just needs to be securely incased Put it in the Glove Box or a center console with a lid. Yes, it is the law despite all the conflicting info. You do not need your CCW to do this.

Took me about a month; it can be shorter if you to one of the AG offices.

A perk of the CCW is the no wait for a long gun or hand gun.
I admit my carry gun is forgotten as often as it’s carried but the CCW is always in my wallet. ;)

You are incorrect.............with your CWFL you take immediate possession.

I read the Florida Statute 790.001 Subsection(17):

(17) “Securely encased” means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access.

I am ok with my case under the seat. Thanks.

I just bought one Wednesday, walked out with it when the background check came back. Actually I was surprised Florida now had a wait time. Last time I bought there was none for long guns. Some counties did but not the state.

The key to the whole thing lies in the word concealed. Florida does not recognize open carry. Even with a permit to carry a gun, the gun has to be concealed from sight. Hence; Concealed carry permit. Having a permit to carry does not mean that you can carry your gun everywhere. You cannot. There are definitive laws with regard to this. It is serious business.

Florida's Department of Agriculture claims to have dramatically decreased wait time for a permit so you should receive your permit pretty quickly if there are no issues with your record or fingerprints. Sometimes, fingerprints (manual or electronic) aren't adequate, for whatever reason, and have to be re-done. I seem to remember that they will take them twice and if they still are not able to be used, a manual check is done by the FBI. Turnaround time is still pretty fast. Their website is good about posting your application status.

If you have a carry permit in Florida, you can buy a gun without having to endure the 3-day waiting period but you are still subjected to and pay a minimal fee for, a background check. If it comes back clear, you are free to take the gun with you.

Good luck and stay safe.
There are exceptions to the no open carrying - camping and fishing and hunting

So basically, whether I have a permit or not I have to get a background check every time I purchase a firearm, I guess to make sure I haven't done anything unlawful, then you can buy as many different kinds of guns as your wallet permits.

You are right, I guess this only applies to people with no permit...Thanks, I'll be going to my gun store more often.

If I recall correctly, each background check is good for purchases for as many firearms as you wish in the one transaction (there are spaces on the 4473 for five, but the dealer can attach a separate list if needed.)

In Florida, if you have a CCW you can buy a gun, they do the background check, if it is clean you can walk out of the store with your gun. If you do not have a CCW then you have to wait 3 business days.

If you buy more than ONE gun at a purchase then the dealer must fill out a multiple gun form and send it to the ATF. Now if the ATF is suspicious of you and have nothing to do they will come knock on your door and may ask to see the guns.

But in their wisdom if you buy a gun from one dealer, then go down the street to another and another you can buy all the guns you want with no multiple gun form (sarcasm)

A BG check is computerized now and can take a few minutes or longer, depends if all "operators/lines" are busy at the time.:)
