Been digging around the internet to see which I should buy. We've wanted a M9/92FS for almost a year now, and we're ready to buy. Though, the store we're buying from happens to have both.

I know for a fact that the only differences between the M9 and the 92FS are: The frame, the sights, the grip, the screws on the grip, and the stamps. When I was looking at their "92FS", the frame didn't have the curve, but all the rest where what it should be.

Did they ever make 92FS's without the curved frame?

There are currently some USA made 92s built on M9 frames - so, you can get straight framed 92s.

And, believe it or not - currently, there are a some commercial M9s built on 92 curved dustcover frames. I saw one new at a gunshow 2 weeks ago.

So, ya just gotta look. The product #'s don't cary - its just luck of the draw.

As for the grip screws... The italian ones typically have flat head screws. The USA made ones tend to have hex screws. But, some 92s have hex screws and some do not. That one thing doesn't really differentiate it from an M9

Either way you won't be disapointed. I've had a 92fs brigadier since I was 21 (first gun) and really enjoy it.

Either one... I think the differences are insignificant myself. Choose the one with the sights you like best.

I have 92FS and just bought a Italian model 92S.

I would like to have an M9 Special Edition in Green Box just to keep from wanting one! ;)

My M9 is my favorite. I love everything about it. I had the choice between the two and picked the M9 because of the sights. It really points quickly in that configuration.

Three reasons why I chose the M92A1 over the M9.

Plastic Buffer in the spring guide channel - Supposedly helps reduce stress on the locking block and isn't present in the M9.

Three dot sights - I don't like the "over/under" 2 dot sights on the M9.

3 magazines - Cabelas had the M92A1 with 2x17 round magazines and 1x15 round magazine, but only 2x17 round magazines with the M9. Price was identical ($599).

Honestly, the differences are pretty minor, most are just personal preference.

The 92A1 comes with 3 magazines actually. So, they jipped you out of one, apparently...

Most older 92fs models have the straight dust cover, not the angled one. The angled one was made to provide more reinforcement for the .40 S&W round for the Beretta 96, but was used on the 92fs as well.

I was originally looking for one with a dished out backstrap like the newer 92fs but the straight dust cover like on the old ones. But these were only produced in "transition" for a couple years in the late 90's, and I happened on a smoking deal for a newer 92fs that I couldn't pass up.

Either way, you'll end up with a fine pistol. Enjoy!

Get whichever one costs you less. In most retail outlets I've seen, there is a $20-ish difference between the two.
