Here are a few suggestions (I have done these by the way):

1. Wolff Trigger Spring- The Reduced Power one
2. Wolff D Spring- Made the trigger pull smoother
3. Wolff Recoil spring- I went with the 16 or 17LB one

The heavier recoil spring made shooting Remington 124gr +P much smoother and easier to handle. However I had trouble shooting 9mm frangible rounds with the heavier recoil spring. They would not cycle at all. But overall if your shooting bullets 115gr and up these upgrades will make for a much more enjoyable experience.

I can also vouch for the "D" spring. Major improvement on the trigger. I'm assuming the one you bought is a non-railed model being only the M9 and not the M9A1. If your dad wants to make it into a defensive gun with a light, I can recommend the EZ rail which is a great option if you're going that route. http://www.trgear.com/shop/ez-rail-beretta-9296-models . I have the CT laser grips on mine, but I inherited them and liked the dimensions a lot more than the hogue fingergrooved grips that came with my gun. Otherwise I can't really recommend the laser grips. I believe they make a better middle finger operated laser now though, this button I have is hard to activate unless shooting left handed.

One suggestion would be to hold it lovingly every time a Lethal Weapon movie is replayed on TBS.

All seriousness, the first time I pulled the trigger on a 92FS loaded with 124+p Gold Dots I was shocked at how little recoil a defensive pistol could have. Very nice.

No Smilely Face stickers....

Just don't add any Smiley Face stickers or cheap sheet metal ambi slide releases like LAPD Det Sgt Martin Riggs. :)

Feel free to covet your 92 and partake in the movie series Interactively and follow along, but make sure it's unloaded so you don't blow up your TV :D

It's a nice rig, but I don't think I'd ever get one myself because of the safety.

Great single action pull though.

I cut my teeth on the lethal weapon series, being born in the late 80s.

My buddy has one and he's kept it bone stock, I've shot it with him and I think it's fine bone stock. I never thought much of it until I shot it, it's a nice pistol. Get him more magazines and more ammo to put in those magazines

I thought that too until I got a D series spring. DA trigger was night and day.

I just got my D spring in the mail yesterday. I can't wait to install it and take it to the range.

The Beretta extended mag release is a nice mod. Other than that, get him some 18 round Mec Gar magazines for it.

Bovice:

That's one heck of a gift! Good on you! Sounds like your father raised you right!!! :)
