supposed K98 weak action??
I have shot several K98 action based rifles with some wild (really, really, wild) rocketship wildcats... such as the 7ULA (think a short action variant of the 7STW)... and the gun I fired had been proof fired. twice. With a normal load of over 75 grains , this isn't a puny round, delivering a 160 grain spire point around 3400 fps and I had the bruises to prove it! (didn't anticipate the total lack of take-up on the trigger... thought I was just staging the bastard, but it fired at less then 2.5 pounds!) but I have seen the proof marks and know the guy who vetted the rifle...
Personally, I think that those kind of world ender wildcats are a bit rediculous for 99% of the shooting I do and therefore stick to more sensible round choices, but for the sake of arguement, I think that it speaks volumes about the durability of the K98 action! I have also seen .25 moa groups from k98 based rifles, and am in the middle of a 7-08 build with a timminey trigger, douglass XX barrel and custom stock for myself. I think that dollar for dollar, the douglas barrels will shoot better than I do, and based on my level of ability and expectations from my rifles, they shoot well enough.
after a while, the mega-bucks spent chasing that last .000005 of barrel concentricity from ultra-preimiums may be better spent on improved optics or a really nice pillar bedding job, or my next months mortage!
