I want a 1911 in 9mm, would love a Colt, but they are pricy. I visited the Springfield Armory website and their 9mm 1911 is a model number P19134L. List price is $1005.00

Are these available from someone that would give a really good discount? Is cost plus 10% possible?

Be sure you understand what "cost" really is. Bud's is notorious for selling near cost in order to drive their huge volume of sales so they are a good place to check on what you could expect for the most competitive pricing.

I'm thinking that they sell for LESS than cost +10%.

They don't show that particular model, and I'll bet it's because 9mm in full size 1911 frames aren't that much in demand (compared to 1911's in .45).
But you might contact them to get a price and if you like it, they can surely special order it since they do so much volume business with Springfield. Here's their Springfield page: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/21_24

Don't overlook the 9mm EMP, either. I've got 3 Colt 1911's, but I bought an EMP and absolutely fell in love with it. It's a "real" 1911 pistol that's been scaled down and it fits the hand so nicely that you don't want to put it down.
The EMP has become my smaller carry pistol for when I can't dress to hide my Commander.

I paid $934 for my EMP just a few weeks ago, but I see that it's now at $1012 at Buds so evidently, the EMP has gotten real popular real fast.

Bud's had the standard Springer 9mm 1911 model for $741 the other day - would think it's still there. I'm not familiar with the model #'s, so I don't know if you are looking at the target sight model or not.

I am also looking at a 9mm 1911. Colt's website isn't much help - are they still making these? A Colt Combat Commander would be great, but these might only be available on the used market. Searching Gunbroker/GunsAmerice doesn't show much of any 9mm 1911 around.

I am ruling out the EMP since I want at least a 4" barrel, and most likely prefer a standard government model.

I like the idea but $700+ is way too much for a gun who's main purpose is to shoot cheap ammo. In the mean time I make do with my "commander sized" Star BM its 1911-like enough to keep me happy and at ~$140-170 very reasonable to buy. I liked it enough to buy a second for a spare as parts for them aren't getting any easier to find.

Recently got a Star BS full sized 1911-like. Shoots very well but I need to find more magazines for it. CDNN had them for $160 last catalog. The BM mags usually aren't too hard to find at gunshows for $15-20 each. Too bad the BS mags are different.

I hope that RIA comes out with a single stack 9mm, they make a .38Super that runs <$400, so seems a 9mm should be pretty easy for them to do.

PS found a Triple K brand replacement mag at yesterday's gun show for $24, #1297M locks in, locks the slide back, and feeds dumy rounds. If it works at the range I'll try and find some more at a better price.

You could check with forum member Correia about the STI Trojan 9mm's that are available. He had some good pricing going on recently.

Any 38 Super 1911 can be converted to a 9mm with simply a barrel and spring change. Colt does currently offer several 38 Super guns. Having a 9mm to practice, and a 38 Super to carry is a very appealing package for some. Not unlike the revolver guys who practice with .38s, carry .357s.

I'm buying a Colt Mk 4 NIB in .38 super for under $800. I plan to get a 9mm barrel fitted and new mags if necessary. This should still keep me under $1,000.

No new mags necessary. I simply use my 38 Super/9x23 mags loaded with 9mm all the time when I drop in my 9mm barrel. I did buy some 9mm mags just to see if it makes a difference. No difference in function.

The extractor might, might, just maybe a little, need adjusting. But, I'd leave it be and just try it first.

Who are you having do the work to fit the barrel, PO2?

I hope you find a nice 9mm M1911. However, have you considered the M1911's cousin, the Browning High Power 9mm?

I think looking at the Colt section of Bud's website will show a selection of .38 super guns that can be easily converted to 9mm. Several are in the $700-800 range. Buy a 9mm barrel from Barsto, and viola, a new 9mm Colt!

Your other option is to find one used. I paid $650 for my 9mm Commander that is pictured below. If you are skiddish about buying used because you don't know how to check out a used 1911, here is an article to teach you how. Buying used is where the deals and selection is.

There is one route I would definitely advise. If you really want a Colt, then get a Colt. You will save money in the long run, because you will trade and swap until you eventually have a Colt. They are like Harley Davidsons. A Honda might look and function similar, and admittedly be superior in some cases, but it will never be a Harley. If you have the desire for the heritage of the real deal, then buy the real deal. You will anyway, sooner or later. That's not a slam in Springfield 1911s, I own three Springers, and they are all good guns. I also own two SW1911s, they are good guns too. They will, however, never be Colts.

XavierBreath,

I wondered if the .38 Super could be converted, now I know. There are quite a few Colt Supers for sale. I may take this route after I give it some time in my quest for a Colt 1911 in 9mm.

Thanx a bunch.

Springfield 9mm 1911 are tuff to find some times once I got mine i wish I had not found one, gun functioned well but not as pin point as I thought it would be for a 700 pistol, I sold it save some cash for about 6 mn and order a les baer in 9mm and it is as pin point as you can shoot it
