I was at a local pawn shop and saw an olympic 9mm AR for 599.99.
Just wondering if that was a fair price? I would also like to get a
223 upper later down the road. I don't know much about AR's.
Would the 9mm be a good start or hold out for a 223.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal. But, I know nothing about the quality of that brand.

I really like my 9mm AR and I paid quite a bit more than the price you found...however, I know nothing about Oly arms so you might either do a search or check out ar15.com and see what those guys have to say ;)

PS....welcome to THR!

9mm AR's are great, since you can use them at most indoor ranges, and the ammo cost a lot less.

But, I would say to find out if it's a mix and match rifle or a "as factory" piece. Then if it's piecemeal,
work them over on the price. Also find out if it's got a removeable Magblock.

A new Olympic AR in .223 with a cast lower can be had for UNDER $600. for some, Oly are not known for being the best in terms of fit and finish, and loose tolerances.

If you want a 223 upper later:

- This rifle's lower must have a removable 9mm magblock

- you will have to get a new bolt for the .223 upper

- You will need a "do-all" hammer, or will need work done
to your hammer to be compatible with boththe 9mm and
.223 bolts.

If it is in good condition then that price is a 100% "BUY IT NOW" price.

If you're not going to get it, would you please let me know so I can get it?

Oly has two kinds of 9mm ARs. One uses modified sten mags, the other (GL in their model number) use Glock magazines. The ones for glocks use a special lower and cannot use other caliber uppers. Check out Olyarms.com and download their catalog to find out which it is.
list price is: K9 (sten mags) $834
K9-GL (glock mags) $924
I think the glock ones came out a couple years ago so if it's an older model that wouldn't apply.
Sounds like a fair price.

I would not bother with a .223 upper for it. I like having seperate lowers for my 9mm and 5.56. This way i have two complete rifles instead of one and a half.
