Just look at the list of sponsors at the Nationals and other large sanctioned events and notice that missing are the names of those suppliers with protected status. These suppliers are not dumb, they put their advertising money where their customers will see it and that isn't the participants of theses kinds of events.
not sure what your point is and the "protected status" rhetoric is tired, but I've seen Berry's and Xtreme and RMR banners at large matches. Didn't help Xtreme much... despite them being very popular on the forum.

^^^ If possible I would give the above 100+ likes you are so right!

May I ask what large matches you have been to?

By any chance have you checked out the sponsor listing for the Nationals in the latest issue of Front Sight?

Haven't personally been to any larger than state level but I've seen footage of quite a few national and regional matches with prominent banners/sponsorship by the above. berry's is local to me and RMR is one state over so maybe I see them more than eastern states would or something.

There are a lot of fanbois around that like to jump up and down about Brand A vs. Brand B, and why one is great and why one is horrible, etc.

Bothers me too sometimes.

BUT... When someone asks for opinions on what I like, then I am going to answer. What is the point of a forum if you can't ask for opinions and get responses? How helpful would it be to say something like "They are all good, take your pick"?

I go with the option of "Here is my opinion, take it for what it is worth".

What I will never do however is to say something sucks and you need to choose mine over something else, etc. I don't talk about Glocks because they don't fit my hand, I don't like the triggers, and I don't shoot them well... but they are GREAT GUNS. Would I recommend one? Don't use them, so how could I recommend them? Those are conversations I just stay out of since I have nothing to add. But I know some folks who would be quick to jump in with a "Glock sucks" comment or "SIG sucks" or whatever when they don't even shoot them regularly.

There are ways to stay positive, even when the intent is neutral or somewhat negative. For example, I know someone on another forum who is considered a 1911 expert, and his favorite comment about Kimber's is to say "they sure are pretty", and he leaves it at that!

When asked, I will tell people that I love RMR because of their service and the quality of their products. I use them for 9mm and .45. But for my competition .40 S&W loads, I use COATED BBI and Blue, and have used Eggleston, Bayou, etc. and they were all great. Hornady and Nosler for rifles, etc.

To respond to the OP, I like and have used both FMJ and plated, and find they both work well. Personally, with my skill level, I think they both do well enough, and I can't say I prefer one over the other. I guess it comes down to price and what your gun likes to shoot. I have shot an absolute ton of Berry's and Xtreme plated bullets with great success over the years, although I have been buying more FMJ lately in 9mm as I have found a bullet that shoots really well in all my guns.
