Has anybody done anything special for 9mm loads that will be shot out of a 16" Beretta CX4 Storm?

I was thinking about getting some 147 grain Hornady XTP bullets and loading them a little hotter using nickel plated cases. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I shoot 124 and 125 grain lead round nose and montana gold fmjrn and they all shot well....I haven't tried anything heavier just because I use the gun for plinking and the 124 and 125 grain bullets are relatively cheap. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Can the CX4 carbine shoot +P+ loads?
I got the 9mm 16inch barrel carbine but i'm not sure this can handle the +P+ loads.

Thanks everybody, I think I will try a box of 147's. I have some HP-38, but I will look into VV 3N38. I like the little CX4 for HD. Have the AR for everything else :)

Purebred, I believe Beretta says its ok to shoot +p+, just not all the time.

my Marlin Camp 9mm I replaced the recoil spring and buffer with updated parts now it will handle +P loads well.
one of my nephews has the Kel-Tec 9mm and it handles +P 147gr no problem at all in fact the manual recommends +P loads. that thing is impressive considering the ways it's made. good gun for H-D and a women could handle it easily, or someone completely unfamiliar with a handgun.

Storm - Blowback, not locked breech

Well, since the Storm is blowback rather than locked breech, there are limits to what you can do with your reloads.

Unlike a Winchester 94 or other locked breech carbine in a pistol caliber, you can't assume that you can use slower powders to take advantage of the longer barrel - because sooner or later, the spent cartidge case is going to eject, and with a blowback, it's going to depend more on bolt mass/spring weight when that happens.

I'd give the 147s a try and start with slightly slower burning powders - I don't know if the Storm is up to a steady diet of subgun ammo (like the Israeli +p+ stuff manufactured for Uzis) but you do have a rig that could get some benefit out of more barrel. If the owner's guide says it's up to handling +p loads, all the better. Of course.... many warranties will tell you that handloads void the warranty automatically. :uhoh:

Oh - I don't think nickel cases will help you with pressure. They tend to be more brittle than brass. The are more corrosion resistant, though - and if you're loading for more than one 9mm, it would help you identify stuff you loaded specifically for the Storm.

Thanks Druch & jjohnson for the info.
