Can anyone tell me what we were paying for inexpensive 9mm ammo pre-panic?

Rounds like Wolf steel, American Eagle, Aguilar. Quantities of 500+.

Winchester White Box was $19.99 per 100 at WalMart and it was always in stock.

Last summer at Palmetto State Armory I was buying Brass Blazer for as low as $8.49 a box of 50 with free shipping for a whole case. Cabelas also had S&B on sale from time to time for $8.49 a box of 50.

Unless you are compiling a history, what it "was" versus what it currently "is" is a moot point. Current pricing has different parameters than previous pricing and trying to compare the two is like comparing apples to pickup trucks

Kind of like hoping gas will be $1.69 a gallon again like it was pre obama.

I've been shooting for years but only just decided to get a 9mm. Yep, I decided to start shooting 9mm in January of this year. How smart was that? Anyway, it still hasn't seen a store bought round go through it.

Maybe the guy was just curious, not "hoping" for anything. The responses chiding the guy for asking were a lot less germane to his question than was his question to current events.

In today's market, I easily get $25 for 50 rounds of 9mm. Also get $.60+ each for fmj .223s. I suspect that things will settle down in the not-too-distant future. Wait-a-minute! What am I saying? Looks like Zimmerman will certainly be found innocent. There's going to be a MAJOR run on ammo soon!

I was stocking up on Wolf, Brown Bear, etc. whenever I saw it for $150/1000 or less, which was replacing the $80/1000 Aluminum Blazer I'd stocked up on previously as I shot it up.

This is $7.50/50 rounds. Academy usually had Monarch steel case during this time for $8-8.50/50 during this time period.

I could get cci blazer for $8.99 all day long. Russian stuff around $8.50 or so...... For 50 to clarify.

My stock is mostly reloads from miwall, etc. 130-150 per 1000 was a good deal before the craziness. Although I have little confidence that prices will return that low, I think it will settle down. It is just simple economics. The last gun show in my area had several more ammo vendors and I don't think the wholesale price of raw materials has increased nearly as much as the finished product.

Our local Fleet-Farm sold Federal American Eagle's for $16.99 / 50 before the panic struck.

But even now I see the same stuff selling for $20 /50

They also used to sell the AE .223 200-pack bozes for $79,, those days are long gone, they have some .223 ammo , but its $10 / box of 20

Im glad I had some stocked-up !!

That's what I remember

My memory was correct. I remember paying about .17 for Wolf steel. Now, rock bottom seems to be about .30/round for any 9mm anywhere online. I'll stop by Wally's and see what the shelf says.

I became suspicious when a google search turned up 1000 Wolf steel for $230, shipped. I went to the site and the price was $199/500 + shipping. So, at one time it was .23/round and now is .40/r + shipping.

As an aside, I think Able Ammo may have the record for "most overpriced", $14.95/box of 50 .22 LR Remington Thunderbird. The same site offered bricks for $22 but, of course, those were "out of stock." Pre-panic was about $1.70/box.

I wasn't necessarily hoarding, but when stock was plentiful, I bought several thousand rounds. I haven't bought any ammo since November (except trap loads) and have shot just as much. Getting low now.

I'm buying blazer brass for 12.95 a box now. Only problem is they have a 2 box restriction at my local gun shop. It's a pain in the butt to keep going back for more. My other gun shop I frequent is 13.99 a box and they have a two box limit also.

The last store bought 9mm blasting ammo I bought was WWB at about $4.40 a box at Academy. I doubt we will see that again. :)

My handgun reloads cost about $4.50 a box.

Walmart in Oklahoma was selling 9mm Federal (100-round pack) at $0.23/round and Winchester (100-round pack) $0.26/round today. That is within a dollar of the price I recall the pre-panic price to have been.

November 17, 2012, I purchased 6 100 round packs of Federal 9mm @ Walmart for $19.97 per pack. We are very far away from having a deal like that again.

It is less than $1.50 more today -- how is that price "very far away" from the Nov '12 price?

Last year, right before the election, local Bi-Mart stores (think miniature employee-owned Wal-Marts), always had dozens of 50-round boxes of Remington UMC 115-grain 9mm on the shelves at $11.99. About once per month, they'd do a week-long sale at $2 off all handgun ammo. That would make it $9.99/50 with no sales tax here in Oregon. No limits on quantity, either. Sigh...those were the days. Oh, and just for reference, American Eagle 55-grain FMJ 5.56 in boxes of 20 would go on sale every month for $5.99.

Now, if you can get in line on the right day, and the delivery truck happens to have those 2 products, they are $13.99 and $8.99, respectively. Other local stores sell them for $16.99 and $9.99, if you can find it. And you only get 2 boxes of each.

People are confusing price and availability. The price is pretty much stable. The availability is not. When it comes to WalMart there are reports of employees being fired for grabbing the ammo shipments for themselves before they hit the shelves. Even if they don't resell the ammo this is a violation of Walmart's policy.
