Will moon clips for 9mm fit .380?

Does anyone know of a reason NOT to shoot .380 in a 9mm revolver? (Assuming moon clips are being used.)

Does anyone know of a reason NOT to shoot 9mm or .380 in a .357Mag revolver using moon clips?

I believe the base of the 9mm brass has a bigger diameter (because it's tapered) than the straight-walled .357 case. I don't think it'll chamber.
P.S. I wanted to do the same thing.

Well it SHOULD be safe to send the bullets down the same barrel. But you arent going to get the cartridges to fit in the same chamber. Take a look at all of them side by side and it should be apparent that they have very different dimensions.

Ok, hadn't thought about that. After some simple testing, here are the results.

.380 will chamber in 9mm or .357mag

9mm won't chamber in anything but 9mm.

Sooo...

The .380 in the 9mm is still a possibility if the 9mm moonclips will clip to the .380 cases.

The .380 in a .357 is still a possibility if one can find 9mm moonclips that are the right size for the cylinder and if those clips will clip to the .380 cases.

I'm guessing that accuracy won't be very good, and that the fired cases will be unsuitable for reloading.

I'm sure you can bend the moon clips to hold and fire the .380 in the 9mm revolver, but expect case splits like when shooting 32 S&W Long in the M1894 Nagant.

I'm curious as to why you want to even consider shooting .380 in a 9mm gun, around here 9mm ammo is cheaper than .380.

Interestingly enough, some 9mm (notably Remington-UMC) will fit .38 Special/.357 chambers and would fire if properly supported.

But a revolver has to be specially made/modified to use clips. Some ways of doing this will allow use of the revolver rounds as well, others will not.
