9mm Taper Crimp Question

When "crimping" 9MM adjust the taper "crimp" to just remove the bell on the shortest cases, which will remove the bell on the longer ones (All we need to do), and give a hair of inward movement of the case as well. Too much can cause issues, bulging, etc.If you do it right, the dimensions take care of them selves, I do use a set measurement, I just remove the bell or maybe a hair more.

Plus one to this thread. What can also help is to mike the case mouth just out of the sizing die. That way you have a dimension to go back to. I flare about .003/.004 - just enough to get the bullet to start. Then adjust the taper to just take the flare out. If you have a kinetic bullet puller, you can pull a bullet and see if there is any mark on the bullet at the crimp location. If so, then that's too much crimp pressure and you need to back off just a bit. I too highly recommend a cartridge gauge. In the end, I try to get the taper crimp to .380 but often the actual will be .381 or so. If they drop into the gauge, then you know your fit is good. Another option is to use the chamber in your barrel. But, I still recommend a gauge if for nothing else than to make sure your cartridge length at the bullet ogive is not too long. Oh, look up 9mm cartridge and chamber on the SAAMI page and print it out. Study that info. See that chamber at the mouth is about .382. I've attached for your info.
