9x18 defense ammo?

MC, I'm not trying to be confrontational, just pointing out that the 9x18 HP tests I've seen are not very impressive in the penetration department!.....Just look at the picture you posted. The only one worth a pot is the 115gr which is no longer available.

I too am hoping to only have full frontal shots, if I ever need to defend my life but the likelihood that an arm from the BG could be in the way and obstruct/slowdown the shot is very likely. Think about where your own arms are, relative to your chest, when your pistol is drawn.

I also have no illusions of connecting on head shots, while in the heat of a battle, on a moving target and I myself most likely moving too, for my own self preservation.

Fiocchi FMJ is rated at 265 ft lbs and is very affordable. It's way more powerful than anyother 9X18 except Buffalo Bore, which generates only 10 or so more ft lbs. I use the Fiocchi for practice and defense. Most others are 200-230 ft lbs.

Personally, I think that the caliber is borderline for hollowpoints regarding power & velocity. I'd rather have guaranteed penetration than a shallowly placed, expanded hollowpoint.

If you must do hollowpoints, Pow'RBalls supposedly sail along at 1250 fps; that should be quick enough for a hollowpoint. They're about 240 ft lbs. I still think that they'll come to rest somewhat shallowly placed, though.
Thanks for this information. I appreciate it.

What a bunch of hair splitting! Momentum vs energy vs penetration vs HP .... I guess if this stuff fills your spare moments that's Ok, but stand back, way back, if people are shooting these rounds.

MC I liked the post about momentum for the pure physics of the argument. The 9x18 will do just fine if you have to shoot it.
