Actually packing on my hip today as I type

Yeah, I did too just because I wanted to. I carried some Silver Bear ball ammo in it. I have had this Law Concealment Systems pouch for quite a while and it's sort of universal for small handguns. the P64 rides real comfy in it. I bought it a cheap Blackhawk pocket holster at a shop. It'll work with other guns if I want, but I have other pocket holsters for them.

Barrels on fixed guns like the 82 and the Makarov can be pushed out of the frame bracket that holds it. That way armoreser could replace a damaged or worn barrel without wasting the entire lower frame.

I see, I'm gonna go tear down my 82 and take a closer look. Thanks!

Well, I've been all over hell's half acre looking for Hornady JHP bullets. Midway will back order 'em. I may make an order for 'em soon. Until then, I'll play with some cast bullets for reloading and I picked up two boxes of Monarch ball at Academy today for 9.95 a box. That's as cheap as 9x19 WWB now days, not bad. If I carry the gun, I'll carry ball until I get a good JHP load for it proven in the gun.

Re: Mak

The one thing about my Bulgy Mak is that it is highly accurate - even with the crummy sights (which I put a daub of bright flourescent almost, nail polish on to make them show up better). Doesn't matter BB,SB, Monarch, Hornady, they all go where pointed. The inherent accuracy of that pistol is uncanny.

Right now I have some Brown Bear ball in mine, until my next order of Silver Bear JHP's. Maybe not as scientifically designed as the Hornady, but it moves ata better clip! :D

At 20 feet, it will expand and penetrate. And 20 feet is about the most you'll get into for self defense. You're not going to get into "Gun Fights". And we're talking self defense, not home defense. I use hornady, silver bear HP, and I've ever tried PoweRBall. And all the tests show excellent penetration and expansion.

I carry Hornady 95gr XTP in my PA63 and am satisfied with it's accuracy and performance.

christcorp, I'd like to know about the tests you mention that show excellent expansion and penetration for 9x18 HP at 20 feet. Those of us who attempt testing 9x18 ammunition appreciate expanding the community.

Thanks, NB

Hey NB hows it going? Back from the sandbox.
Hope you don't mind showing off your work. Frankly, its a link/chart all 9x18 shooters should have for information.

Ditto about my East German Mak.

That said, however, if I had to carry either my E.G. Mak or CZ 82, I'd opt for the latter without hesistation due to its 12+1 capacity, better ergonomics and better sights.

Well, the P64s sights are small, but they are fairly precise for targets. They're hard to pick up quickly. At least the gun points well. I shot this first 6 rounds I fired out of the gun resting over my shooting box at 25 yards. I like the size of this gun, too. DA is pretty tough, but the SA trigger is pretty awesome. This was shot with the cheap Silver Bear ball.

MC, have you tried the Wolff spring kit for the P64? It's suppose to improve the DA pull substantially and still function fine, from what I've heard. I have no first hand experience though with the p64 or the Wolff spring kits.

I went to a heavier Wolff recoil spring in my P64, and it really tamed the recoil. The light hammer spring I put in made the DA trigger much better. I usually dont experiment with springs in my firearms, but these two changes are a big improvement for the P64.

I'd figured I'd put one in on my next midway order if they carry it, I think they do. I hope it comes with instructions. Looks like you pull the hammer out to get to it, but I don't know. In the 1911 it comes out the bottom, but this gun has a mag catch in the way. Haven't had the grips off, might be a little more obvious.

Loading your own Personal Defense ammo is a very bad idea. Ask an FBI ballistics analyst or a Prosecuting Attorney.. Hornady makes a really nice load that runs well thru the P64 called FTX or something like that. The Wolff springs are worth it. It takes the bite out of that gun..

I know the arguments, read Ayoob's stuff, but this is Texas, where even the prosecuting attorneys handload. Either the shooting is justifiable or it isn't. Pretty straight up. And, we now have the castle doctrine if the shooting happens in the home or in the car. Anyway, I can't find Hornady XTP bullets in the caliber, so I ordered the Silver Bear hollow point stuff. It got shipped today and I ordered it this morning. I'm impressed. This place is in Brenham up the road from me ..... http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/ The big bummer is I have to pay sales tax on the order. Oh, well, good prices.

I carry handloads in about every other gun I have, though. I load Speer bullets in Speer brass for a couple of calibers to make 'em look good. :D It looks like in 9x18, though, my reloading is going to be for the range. Silver Bear will be my carry. There seems to be a lack of bullets and such in the caliber for reloaders. I really don't care to handload it much, but for the fact that I can use 9x19 brass. I got a mold coming and will cast for range ammo. When I found out I could use 9x19 brass, which I collect from the range, well, I just HAD to. :D

MC, that is great shooting at 25 yards! I don't use my P64 much; mostly because I have 8 Maks to the 1 P64 I own, but I've always thought the P64s are amazingly accurate for such a small pistol. I don't think I can do that well though.

legion3, good to see you on the forum. Hope the weather down in Florida is doing you well.

Do you think so FMJ? Doesn't Glaser make a 75-grain blue tip round?

And why would you think the CorBon Pow'R'Ball is better than FMJ? In my <limited> experience, it's fast and hard hitting, but being that fast, Hollow Point, and only 70-grains it hasn't penetrated well in my backyard tests.

I think my comment was to your earlier post.

Thanks,

NB

Edit:

legion3: you mentioned the sandbox, here's about my favorite picture. Northern Paktika province. I have pics with Afghan Army guys holding my hand up high but this I treaure more:
