Found it on MidwayUSA (link).
So far I've seen the Hornady Critical Defense and Speer Gold Dot (short barrel) include the .22 magnum on their lines of self defense ammunition, now Winchester wants in on this marketing. Do any of these bullets (excluding the Winchester obviously) actually expand from a short NAA mini-revolver barrel? I say the NAA mini-revolver since I can't imagine the majority of people carrying a .22 magnum for self defense aren't carrying something made by North American Arms. I haven't heard of anybody (if any) carrying a .22 magnum Taurus or a S&W for self defense.

I've "heard" that the critical defense has a bit faster powder to get better velocity out of pistols

my mom has a S&W 351PD Airlite .22WMR...things a sweet shooter...you can launch 7 22 mags as fast as you can pull the trigger, with little to no recoil, and a sweet fireball

and its as light as a cap gun

I recall reading that Joaquin Jackson kept a .38spl snub nose in his boot as a backup to his backup gun, but replaced it with a .22mag revolver because he felt that at close ranges, the .22 magnum hit as hard as the .38spl (not a statement that I would agree with, but it's hard to discount the opinion of someone with this much experience).

So I would think there's probably more people carrying .22 magnums that aren't NAA minis than we'd see in just the Highroad crowd.

They must be carrying concealed, because I haven't seen a single person with one! :neener:

I pocket carry a 351NG every day, it's my backup to an IWB auto in .40 of one type or another. Use Federal 50 gr. HP's in it. If any of these new SB loads have 40 gr. or heavier bullets I'll definately be trying them out.

My favorite round, I have 3 pistols a 351, a 451-1, and a PMR 30. I think a 45g bullet out of the PMR would definately help it.

I would consider the .22 magnum an acceptable defensive round from a rifle if it weren't a rimfire.

It just loses too much velocity in a pistol.
