Catching the AR-15 bug...

What is the least expensive but still reliable option for beginners??
What should be my minimum budget??
I want something I can put a Picatinny rail into it.

I'm building what's turning into a Stag-15 model 4H.

Look into it. I got the stripped lower locally. Found the LPK online, and bought a Rock River A2 buttstock directly from Rock River (cheapest I could find) And the Stag 4H upper will complete my "flattop" A2 build. I think I'm gonna end up putting $780-800 into it.

a good cheap AR15, well there are several out there. I really like Stag, S&W, DPMS, etc. Avoid Vulcan/Hesse.

a good cheap M16??? if you ever find one, please let me know! currently they are in the 15k to 25k range...

I'm a Saigaholic but that last post didn't help anything. He's not looking for just any .223 he's looking for an AR-15....

And thats exactly what I recommended... looks like an AR15 variant to me.

I've seen brand new Olympic Plinker Plus' for as little as $589.

The oly plinker plus will work, for a plinker. I hear Oly bbls are accurate, but I'm not impressed with the rest of the gun that comes with it.

If you think you may use it for SHTF or defense step on up to a RRA, stag, smith, etc. Stags are a lot of gun for the money.

As posted above, aviod Vulcan/Hesse.

The Olympic Plinker Plus is an AR15. That is just Olympic's model name for it.
Bart, I'm assuming SN13's post was directed at Owlnmole, not Grant48;)

Keep in mind, the difference between a $600 and an $800 dollar rifle is actually quite noticeable. I would look at an entry level Stag or Rock River. If you can handle pushing two pins out and back in, you could buy a complete lower and a complete upper and save $100. The Double Star lowers get good reviews on here, but I don't personally own one. I think I've seen their complete lowers go for around $210. You can get a complete Rock River upper for around $450. So, for $675 or so, you can get a much better gun than an Olympic Arms or similar $675 gun.
