I stopped at a couple of gun shops this weekend while on an Ice Fishing trip and here is what I found.

Is that $1,799 or $1,999 for the evil black rifle?

We can all only hope that this is the beginning of the return to sanity.

Cabelas in west chicago burbs had a ton of x39, 9mm, 45acp, and 357. No .40, .22, or .223. Semi good news...

It is $1999.00, but what was a Pre-ban Colt bringing before? I was thinking this was pretty cheap considering? I was thinking that they were in the $2500.00 range. I didn't ask if it was a consignment gun or not.

I managed to luck into a couple boxes of 45 today at Wal-Mart. The guy working the counter said he had just put them out this morning and had four boxes left. Of course, seeing they still had a shelf full of .357 Sig, I'm still kicking myself for not picking up that XD a couple months ago.

$3.29 for Thunderbolt? That stuff is so crappy I gave away what I had left a couple years ago. I chronographed it and found 100 FPS variation from round to round. Worst ever.

$3.29 for ANY box of 22 LR ammo (save the real exotic stuff) is hardly anything to cheer about. Prices will come down... eventually. But I bet they never get back to where they were. Once the fools proved they would buy at those ridiculous prices the ammo makers and dealers have no reason to lower the prices.

I saw quite a bit of ammo last week at my LGS's, but it was still a bit pricey. $489 for 1,000 40S&W FMJ is a bit more than I want to spend on bulk range ammo. 9MM was still spotty, but available and .22 still seemed to be the rarest... I saw less of that than even .223 and AK ammo.

Note that this is a TrueValue store. 3.29 on thunderbolt the regular price even before the scare. Truevalue went through a refit a few years ago where they followed in the box store example of selling everything pre-packaged, so no more cutting screen or selling bulk nails. All the stores who have gone through the transition also have much higher prices on many things. This particular store is 30 miles from the next nearest competitor.

The WallyWorld down the road from me FINALLY has 22's back on the shelves as well.

It was very interesting to see that besides the 22's, they had 270, 9mm, 38 special, and not much else. I'm guessing that their selection was a little larger before someone showed up with their credit card and scrapped the shelves clean.

The lever rifle is a fairly early Marlin 336A or the older Model (19)36, in either .30/30 or .35 Rem.

I can never find common caliber ammo at the wally world by me. It seems more people buy ammo at walmart than at the sporting goods stores :D

I am in Wheaton and it is for me. I have been saving my Cabelas points and gift card from Christmas. Maybe I'll run over this week and see the prices they're asking.

That Remington 14 pump rifle right rear has probably seen a few boom & bust cycles in the firearms industry.

The gun show in Cincinnati last weekend was telling.

Lots of AR's, many hundreds of 30rd mags, lots of .223, all for obscene prices.

High prices were supposed to be about scarcity right?... Lots of folks scoffing, none buying. I saw a Colt 6920 that I've seen before on a dealers rack. The handwritten $1300 tag (which was too much 3 months ago) had been scratched over to $2500.

Same rifle. You need $1200 additional profit and you can't afford a new tag?

I think the bubble has burst in Cincinnati and I hope the next show reflects sane prices.
