I just got this letter from my Congressman Mr. Jim Matheson (D-UT). I write to him regularly regarding the 2A. He is one of few middle-ground Democrats that support the 2A.

Dear Mr. ,
Knowing of your interest in Second Amendment rights, I wanted to provide you with an update on recent legislative activity in this area.
Recently, US Attorney General Eric Holder made statements suggesting the intention of the Obama Administration to renew the "Assault Weapons Ban", which expired in 2004. As a staunch supporter of Second Amendment rights, I was deeply troubled by this statement, and personally wrote to Mr. Holder outlining the following concerns:
A Federal review of the nation's gun control laws found no conclusive evidence that a law such as the "Assault Weapons Ban" has helped to prevent crime, suicides, or accidental injuries. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) enlisted a task force to review the dozens of published studies about the effectiveness of eight types of gun control laws. In every case, the task force found "insufficient evidence to determine effectiveness." Ultimately, this type of law creates a scenario whereby law-abiding citizens are stripped of their rights to keep and bear arms while crime involving these types of arms is not decreased.
I have consistently fought for the preservation of Second Amendment rights, and will continue to do so. Most recently, I joined several colleagues in the House of Representatives in the creation of a special task force to monitor legislation regarding the Second Amendment in an effort to guard against efforts to weaken those rights.
If you have any questions or concerns about this topic or any others, please feel free to contact my office.
Sincerely, Jim Matheson
