I've been on the market for a Kimber CDPII Pro, and stopped by a local gun shop to price/look around and he had a brand new from the factory Kimber CDPII Pro for $1,049. As I looked around, he also had a Kimber CDP Pro (first edition) in another case for $999. In looking at it, the thing is brand new, but in his used case. I asked him about it and he said it was a trade from one of his regulars. The guy had bought it, put it in a safe and never fired it. I believe it.
Question is this, which one of these two would you take and why? I've heard the uproar about the series 2 pistols, but that largely seems to be a thing of the past. Is there an advantage to buying the new new over the old new?
Thanks in advance for the informed help. ;)

I'd buy the older one if wanting a Kimber of that model. The series II Kimbers have the firing pin safety system added, it is activated with the grip safety and the firing pin block is under the rear sight - I prefer not to have that system due to the potential problems they can cause. The price seems high though...:uhoh:

Thanks for the answers.
That's the best price I've found here in the midwest on these pistols. I have found a little better on sites like gunbroker, but only about $20 and I'd rather hold/see/inspect the actual firearm if possible before buying, so the extra $20 is worth it to me. I haven't been able to find ANY series one Kimbers other than this one though, and it's new also.
Again, thanks!

Fwiw

I have heard bad things about the external extractor Kimbers. I have an Eclipse with the internal and it functions fine, but multiple people say stay away from the external extractor guns.

More FWIW...

I bought a Stainless II from a THR member a couple years ago. I have thousands of rounds through this External Extractor model and love it. It's accurate, feeds and ejects just fine.

Yeah, well, all in all I guess the price ain't as bad as it sounds..but do try to get it for less if you can! If the pistol is one that I wanted, I'd rather pay the "new" price for a pre series II model than for a new series II ! ;) Kimber will warranty them the same, well, actually, they'll take care of you no matter the age of the pistol as long as it hasn't been abused or modified.

Once again, thanks for all the comments. Good stuff! I think I'll go put some money down on the series one tomorrow. :)

The price def. seems a bit high for a "used" Kimber CDP Pro.

Personally I'd buy the new one. I bought a new one for $999 after a price match at Gander Mountain.

Remember the old one might have an external extractor - the new ones do not. It's personal preference really. I like the internals myself :D

And as for the Schwartz (Series II) safety... if you really don't like it there might be a way to remove it (not 100% sure though)

The price is pretty high on that preseries II CDP, but it'll most likely be a better gun than the new one. Fit, finish, reliability should all trump the new SII CDP. But handle both side by side and compare if you get a chance.

But if you can swing it, go for the Classic CDP. They ain't making anymore so don't pass up a good opportunity!

I've been thinking about it and I've decided to go with the series one CDP Pro. Yes, technically it is "used", but it hasn't had a round through it. Original box, paperwork, everything just as it left the gun store originally. The price is fine with me, since that's just the way it is around here and I like being able to handle and inspect every weapon I buy before plunking down money. I'm leaving in about 15 minutes to go put the gun on hold with a 50% deposit. God willing and the creek don't rise, it'll be coming home with me in a couple of weeks. I don't want to get a series one get away. I'll probably end up getting the other one in teh future anyway. You know how it is. We all have a "problem". :D
Thanks for all of the replies and input. I appreciate it.
