Here's the background:

A little problem with my 1858 Rem from Cabelas, Lady at Cabelas say's no problem, box it up and use the return label on your invoice to ship back and we'll send a replacement. So, I do all that and then call UPS for a pickup at my business (do it all the time). I give dimensions, weight, then she (UPS lady) asks what the contents of the package are. I tell her a BP revolver, she puts me on hold for 5 minutes then gets back on the line and asks if I have a FFL. I tell her "no, I'm pretty sure its not required for a BP revolver", back on hold for another 5 minutes, she comes back and wants to know if the receiver has a FFL and if it is an individual or a dealer. I tell her "yes they are a licensed dealer", back on hold for several minutes she comes back and tells me it requires an adult signature when it is picked up. I tell her "fine, everyone at my business is an adult". Whew! My first experience shipping a handgun and as best I can tell the ATF does'nt even consider it a handgun. Is this a normal occurence?

UPS here is even worse. If the get wind it is a "gun" they attempt to apply the most restrictive handgun criteria to it. The local UPS man is very timid and will not ship a handgun unless the sender has an ffl and he has a copy of the receiver's ffl.

it all depends how lucky you get with who you end up talking to. these bp revolvers are not considered firearms. i've had 3 muzzleloaders and 2 revovlers left on my doorstep and that never required a signature.

Lesson number one....Don't tell them it's a gun. Some people become paranoid at the thought :) Even though it's perfectly legal to ship it to anyone you want to . Glad you got it shipped out anyway, Mike

The following link is to the UPS guidelines for shipping firearms.

They are only trying to cover their own butts with all the regulations that our politicians unconstitutionally put on firearms ownership, and they will give you a hard time about firearms. Unfortunately most people in the shipping business don't know that BP guns are not considered firearms by definition. They lump it all in the same category by default. :scrutiny: Next time tell them it's a 3 pound lump of metal you are returning to the mill you bought it from. :neener:

semantics

Not" gun parts", be absolutly honest, label it "machine parts". A machine is any mechanical device with two or more levers.

I did the same dance at my local post office when I had to send a piece of junk made by Palmetto back to Dixie Gun Works. After several refusals I finally got them to actually READ their own postal regulations from their own postal regulation book! They semi-grudgingly allowed me to mail it then, but insisted I open the package so they could see it wasn't loaded. I doubt if either of the ladies had ever been that close to a real, live instrument of the devil before. I had to explain how they could tell it was empty. Whew, just wore me out! But, now I've got'em trained. I may need to return another Palmetto someday if I get one as a gift or something. I sure wouldn't buy another one!
