"Reloaders will rejoice over the news that Sig Sauer is going to be making more primers"

https://bearingarms.com/camedwards/...rs-expanding-production-to-meet-demand-n48058
Next sentence in that paragraph: "Of course, given the billion dollar backlog at Vista (and similar backlogs from other ammunition manufacturers), it could be some time before consumers actually feel the effect of the industry’s ongoing expansions."

But, it's the first sentence of the article that says it all: "The boom in gun sales has led to millions of new gun owners, but has also left many store shelves bare when it comes to firearms and ammunition." [emphasis added]

As has been noted, firearms are filling shelves again - albeit kind of a regional thing, it is happening - and powders are available again, although spotty and also somewhat regional; however, I have not seen one word about such massive expansions in the gun owning community in any other country. Just the U.S. This is strictly an American market phenomenon... so far. Now, given the problems from certain government regulators the "new kids on the block" (you know who I mean) are having importing things like say primers, it looks like "we" in the American gun-owning and reloading/handloading communities will be getting what the old guard and new administration permit us to have, not what the markets dictate.

Here's my ray of sunshine hope for the future quote: "That may end up prolonging the current shortage of both firearms and ammunition, but in the long run it’ll lead to a stronger and more secure Second Amendment for all of us."

the backlog is based on demand, any of the vendors can cancel those backlog orders anytime. I don’t think anybody in their right mind is willing to pay $1 a round for 9mm. The demand is from a Ghost Order.

3 primer factories being built! Like I said 3 months ago!!!

LOL… told you!
No, it says ONE closed AMMUNITION plant is being re-opened and ONE new PRIMER plant is in the planning stages.

"New Hampshire-based firearms and ammo maker Sig Sauer said last month that it will be expanding its Jacksonville plant to double production of pistol ammo and plans to add a primer-making operation. The plant makes small-arms ammunition for the civilian, law enforcement and military markets worldwide. The company also builds night sights for its firearms at the plant, which sits on more than 60 acres.

Vista Outdoor, the new parent company of Remington Ammunition, with its ammo plant in Lonoke, said recently it’s continuing to hire workers as it attempts to keep up with consumer demand. The plant employs about 900 people. Chris Metz, chief executive officer of Vista Outdoor, has said the company’s ammunition order backlog is valued at more than $1 billion."

Not to pick nits but that's a far cry from 3 new primer factories being built as of 3 months ago.

I still don’t know who the other primer makers are. They are keeping it tight lip until they are ready to announce. Sig might not be one of the major primer makers. Good to hear new primer makers are coming out.
