A-MERC Case Reloading

Yes, and the experience was most unpleasant.

I honestly never tried to deduce the problem with their brass. Just know that I quickly was able to tell when one was in the sizing station of my Dillon.

1. Sized hard.
2. Most would not accept a primer without crushing it.
3. Those that did take a primer were too short in length and did not receive sufficient bell.
4. Those few that did get enough flare to the mouth, they bulged the case when seating a FMJ.
5. Only got one or two finished rounds to fit in a case gauge.

Rather than spend more effort to use them, I sorted through several thousand empties to cull the AMerc cases out for scrap.

Your experience may be different, (but I doubt it!:))

Lots of them in many calibers have off center flash holes and that will break a decapping pin. I did have some normal shaped ones that I actually reloaded and they worked OK but did not last as long an my RP brass did. So now I just cull them as it is easier than inspecting them for off center flash holes each time.

I would not shoot any of their "factory" (using that word loosely) ammo on a bet with someone elses firearm let alone mine.

IMO using good and hard to find components in A-Merc brass is a total waste of money and time! Any you find should be thrown in the scrap bucket, that's what it's good for and no more...

I tried decapping some 45 acp about 8 yrs ago or so and bent a few decapping pins.

I've stayed away from it ever since. Don't know if it has improved or not.

Where does that garbage come from? I've found some AMERC brass, but I've NEVER seen any AMERC ammo for sale anywhere!

Amerc went out of business recently and a guy local to me was in charge of liquidating inventory.

Needless to day my IBM M1 is very happy with the Amerc 30 Carbine loads I make using amerc brass.

The bullets were toast, so I pulled them and dumped the H110-equivalent powder (which I use in both 30Carb and 300AAC) reload the cases with the powder, and seat a cast lead bullet on top.

Unfortunately the cases are not of any high quality. Mouth cracks, improper dimesnions, etc are rampant.
30Carbine headspaces off the case mouth and the length of the case matters greatly.
That being said, I've encountered cases that were a whole 0.1" too short!

The 223 Amerc cases I have ALL have case mouth cracks. They get turned into 300 AAC blackout and 7.62x25, where they serve the purpose beautifully :)

Some of their 45 Auto brass was made by Starline, which some people say is excellent brass -- NOT including me. Unless you can differentiate the Starline brass -- deburred flash hole and smaller font letters in headstamp -- it should all be consigned to the recycle bucket.

This^^^^^^

Every Amerc casing that sneaked into my cache had an off-center flash hole. I always scrap them.

S&B OTOH are high quality. The primer pockets are tight and this can be an issue with some progressives but they load great on my Lee Turret.

There was somebody on this thread that said he liked Amerc. I've been saving mine for him. One day I'll have enough to send him, but hope I never get that many!

While I know nothing of AMERC ,Im with the S&B fans-that's some good stuff. Everything fits nice and tight.

Same here on the S&B. Had great results with it. Never played with AMERC and after reading this thread I wont!

One more here with a negative review of Amerc. I've got about 3000 pieces of 45 acp brass and finally good through all of them pulling out all of the Amerc. I have a couple hundred pieces of Amerc....keep it separated out and now its sitting in the scrap brass. bucket.

I had some in 40 s&w. No major problems. Just for curiosity sake I loaded the same 100 6x and I still have all of my fingers.

Amerc needs Starline to make their brass but they have such a bad reputation that I Had even the slightest inkling that it came from Amerc it would go in the scrap bucket anyways.

As far as S&B brass goes, I wish I had more of it.

I used 45ACP Amerc range pickup brass. I should have tossed them from the get go, the case heads were so soft that primers would fall out.

Once fired Amerc cases actually have more value than shares in the company. You can sell brass cases for scrap! The company has been delisted from the major stock exchanges, so it must have gone bust.
