A-MERC Case Reloading

I tried loading AMERC .45 acp brass once. I needed Super Glue to hold the primers in the pockets, and the brass was thicker on one side, so much you could see it with the naked eye. The flash holes were at least inside the primer pocket, but not by much. The brass was also much harder, which means it was brittle.

I ended up scrapping all of it, and will continue to as long as it shows up at the range.

Hope this helps.

Fred

Ever seen documented contracts for Amerc? Just saying you have government contracts doesn't make it so. At any rate all they have to do is sell one box of ammo to a police department somewhere and they can say they have government contracts.

Selling to DOD is another matter altogether. I was in a business that sold to DOD for 25 years and at least our contracts were very, very carefully monitored by the Defense Contract Administration Service, a DOD agency. We even had an inspector placed in house for a while. No slack there.

The ammo from the American Ammunition Co. isn't all that bad for the price so you can buy the ammo but then you should treat the brass as if it were steal cased and toss it!

I neglected to say in my previous response, I have reloaded Amerc. But I found that 9 times out of 10, a FTF was an Amerc. So I quit reloading them and now, as previously stated, just save them for somebody with better luck.
I guess the old saying may hold true, "any quart of oil is better than no oil" and likewise "any 45 case is better than NO 45 case"

I used 45ACP Amerc range pickup brass. I should have tossed them from the get go, the case heads were so soft that primers would fall out.

Once fired Amerc cases actually have more value than shares in the company. You can sell brass cases for scrap! The company has been delisted from the major stock exchanges, so it must have gone bust.
