I'm considering getting a new 1911 in .45 acp. Been checking reviews on a Standard Manufacturing and Colt Gold Cup. I used to have a Gold Cup and realize the differences between the two. Same price range, but no adjustable sights on the Standard. Is it possible that the Standard is nice enough to give up the adjustable sights? They certainly are pretty.

Adjustable sights CAN be added afterwards if the model you're looking at is otherwise perfect.
But it's cheaper to start with them than add later.

I've always wanted a blued Gold Cup personally.

Like you I had a Gold Cup many years ago and it was extremely accurate with the right ammo. I already have a Colt Government and a Lightweight Government so if I were looking for another .45 today it would probably be a Gold Cup National Match.

The only two things I recommend folks figure out before they pick a 1911 is to decide if you want/need adjustable sights, and if you want/need a beavertail grip safety. Choose wrong and you're in for some grinding or welding on your gun, and some extra expense.
