I just got my first shotgun! I have shot them before but never owned one, so I am a beginner as far as shotguns are concerned. Mine is a Remington 870 HD with a six shot magazine. I love it! I like the ability to fire birdshot for fun, buckshot for business, and rifled slugs when I need to. I've already burned up a few boxes of #8 and buckshot and it just gets better and better. I have never held a weapon so natural to point and shoot as this.
What do I need to do to get better? I know practice a lot, but can you recomend a good shotgun class? How much should buckshot cost? Where is a good place to get buckshot?

Thanks!

Congratulations and Welcome to THR.

At the top of this forum are some links to some '101' threads chocked full of information you seek. Dave McCracken is one of our Moderators here...look for post by him for starters.

May I suggest Bob Brister's Shotgunning: The Art and The Science , though an older publication this answers a lot of questions asked about shotguns. try www.abebooks.com.

For training I suggest you read the Forum we have for that here as well. Also go to (TFL) www.thefiringline.com and look in the SWAT forum .

That should get you started in the right directions

Welcome aboard, both to this and shotgunning.

Good basic info can be found in the 101 threads.

Many ranges have introductory courses. Check locally, see what's available.

Your local library has some books under Dewey Decimal 799.

And if you've close to central Md, let me know. We can work out a few things at PGC.

Welcome aboard. Good choice on SG's.
I get my buck and slugs from Eric at AMMOMAN in NJ.
Good guy and I like to support any pro-gun activity in places bordering the US, like PRNJ.

For antipersonnel use as opposed to hunting, Gabe Suarez's "The Tactical Shotgun" is a bit old but nothing in shotguns has substantially changed since then, for $15 from amazon.com it's worth it.
