Hi,
I tried my self-defense shotgun, a Winchester 1300, with basic remington 00 buckshot. The gun has functioned flawlessly with bird shot for several hundred rounds (including getting a few doves!). It is a very well used gun, and the action is very smooth with little resistance. The gun also functioned very well with slugs, with no problems.
When I fired the gun with buckshot, the fore-end would fully pump during the recoil, and then jam on the next shell about 50% of the time. Is this due to bad form on my part or should the pump have more resistance? The third option seems to be pick buckshot with less recoil.
The fact that it does fine on slugs and birdshot makes me think it is related to the higher recoil of the buckshot. However, what would proper shotgunning form be to prevent recoil pumping?
