i took my 13 y/o daughter shooting with me today. we go shoot the ruger 10/22 and mark III together. today she looks at my smith and wesson m29
3" .44mag and says she wants to give it a try. after some instruction i let her go. (with some 200gr winchester silvertips in .44 special of course)
hits the 7 ring from about 10 yards.
a proud moment.

My 13 year old daughter asked me 3 or 4 months ago if I could take her shooting some time. Went to a nearby range late last year. I took along a Walther P22 and a Taurus PT-92. After letting her get accustomed to shooting the .22, she said she felt ready to try the 9mm. Bottom line-she was a far better shot with the Taurus than she was with the Walther. The difference was primarily in the better trigger and ergonomics of the PT-92.
So before Christmas, I took her to the local gun shop and let her try out every .22 autopistol they had in the place. Finally settled on a Beretta Neos for the best balance, handling, and trigger action. Took her back to the range three weeks ago and let her run through a brick of Federal Champions, with me loading the spare mags while she was getting a feel for the gun and its sights. By the time she was done shooting, she had no trouble at all putting them all in the black, or I should say orange, as she found it easier with the black on black sights with an orange bullseye. And as you say, a proud moment indeed.

.44 special? That's pretty cool for her age.

My daughter is also 13 and after shooting 1,000 rounds through her Mark III she wanted to try the 9mm. She loved it! So now I'm shopping for a 9mm for her own.

My daughter was about 13 when, after trying a variety of handguns, decided she liked the Glock 19. Prior to that she had been shooting other stuff, mostly .22s. She went off to Gunsite at age 20. Now 29, she has a CCW, the Glock and shoots it regularly.

However she is turning into a wheelgunner which means that she has found The Way.

Daughters that shoot and buy you funny birthday cards are a gift from God.
