I'm recently in a long-barrel handgun kick to add to my collection. Just want to target shoot them with iron sights and no scope. I've just bought a Ruger Single Six single-action revolver that has a 9.5" barrel. Now, I'm looking around for a Ruger Mark II Target with a 10" barrel (I have a Mark III already but unfortuantely, Ruger dropped the longer barrels with the new model, for some reason).

I see that the Smith & Wesson Model 500 is a 10-incher.

What other long barrel handguns are there? At a reasonable price (hopefully no more than $500, but less than $1,000 for sure). Thanks.

I think Ruger is still building the "Super Silhouette" - a 10.5" Super Blackhawk.

Thanks. I just visited their website and do see that. Its a 44 single action revolver. OK, that's one possibility.

I am a ''long tube'' devotee too! My two SRH's are the 9 1/2" variety. Also have a BFR which tho not over long at 8" is still excellent.

I might mention tho too the Contender - single shot I know but - a stellar platform for long tubes. This 14" .223 barrel can potentially pretty much outshoot my Ruger 77 MkII!

If you look around for a used one then you could probably hold your budget.

I have the Ruger SBH 10.5" .44 Magnum, but I'm also interested in the Single Six 9.5". Give us a range report when/if you have one. The SBH was very reasonably priced. The only thing that's bothersome is the trigger (heavy), but that can be improved.

That's an awesome looking piece of art you have there!

Yikes, I don't see the T/C Contender in the California list of allowable handguns. People's Republik of California strikes again!

Look for a S&W model 29 .44 magnum Silhouette; they're no longer made, but they pop up fairly often on gunbroker.com for around $500.00. 10 & 5/8" barrel, front sight adjustable for diferent ranges, all the gun one needs.

Uberti makes a SAA with an 18" barrel:

It looks like the gun that Jack Nicholson used in Batman.

I know this one has a scope, but don't overlook the Desert Eagle (10" & 14" versions).....extremely accurate. Used ones can be found for around $700-$1000.

If the goofballs that make the rules concerning hunting regulations in my state would ever come to their senses and allow semi-automatic handguns for deer hunting, I would LOVE to own a 10" barrelled .44 magnum Desert Beagle!

I shoot a Competitor in .44 with a 23" barrel.......is that long enough?

And I've just ordered a Buckmark with a 12" tube.

Long barrels are the only barrels we can have over here in the UK.
Taurus will supply most calibres in 12" barrel revolvers. .22/ .17/.30/ .38/ .357/ .44mag/ .45acp etc...

Boomstick, what's the name of those devices protruding from the butt of the pistol?

Is it used to stabilize the pistol by levering up underneath your forearm?

We had an extended discussion about those in the "Brotherhood of the Wolf" thread, but I couldn't find pics or a description of that type of stock anywhere on the 'Net.

Thanks, -MV

MV, they are either wrist braces or counter weights, depending on the weapon, we need them to give the firearm an overall length of 24" to make then legal in the UK, it sucks but we have to put up with it.
They are a pain and they get in the way and most people bend them down slightly to avoid contacting them on short range use but the one's on the revolver help with the long range stuff 200yrds+ etc...

PS. Brother hood of the wolf is one of my favorite films....ever.
I believe it was just a custom stock on that pistol though.

losangele,
I think a new law just came into effect in California that exempts single shots from the drop safety tests. That should make them avaiable soon.

you might take a look at Springfield Armory's website or browse the gunbroker site for the SASS conversion. That is Springfield Armory Single Shot. It goes atop a 1911 frame assembly and is not serial numbered. Therefore, no FFL required.

May not pertain to you but for handgun HUNTING purposes, some states restrict length to 10". FYI.

This is my SBH 10.5 inch .44. It was originally bought with a 7.5 inch bbl, which I wore out shooting silhouette. It was sent to Ruger for a re-barrel to the new ,( at that time), 10.5 bbl. That bbl was also worn out, so back it went last year. $136.00 later, this is how it looks.

The only original parts I got back were the hammer. trigger, cylinder and frame. All internal parts, screws and pins are new, along with a re-polish and re-blue.

It shoots just like it did, they even left the trigger job I did 30 years ago alone!
