never never land...never land here!
I guess the PTR boys are bringing out their HK/G3 looking clone in a nice little carbine chambered in none other than the 7.62X39 round, it is supposed to accept AK magazines and will be available with all the usual accessories and configurations as one would expect from a rifle such as this! lol

The PTR 32.....check it out http://www.ptr91.com/ptr32.html

Guess there will be yet another addition to the collection, here we go.......

About as close to a Sturmgewehr as your going to get! :)

Interesting, I would like to see if there is an accuracy improvement over a good AK (With decent ammo)

From what I was told via a phone conversation, the prototype is squirting out 2"-3"@100y patterns. Reloaded 124gr FMJBT, brass case. I guess this thing is supposed to digest it all, but I assume it will have the usual directives from PTR concerning ammo quality and type/manufacture.

I feel like the 7.62x39 is really a CQB round or up to 200-300yards. This is just my opinion. And assuming that I want a compact weapon. I prefer a folding stock AK variant. And I like my weapons to look mean. This is why I bought the Mossberg 590a1, instead of the Rem 570, so I could throw a bayonet on the end. This of course serves no real purpose other than I think it looks cool which is part of owning a weapon. I also own more functional based weapons that I would actually use in real combat situations.

I like it...but that is way too heavy for a intermediate cartridge carbine. Need to slim that booger down by at least a couple of pounds.

:)

Yea, I agree, but as with the G3's...that's the nature of the beast...one good thing, it wont hop around too much. You know how those Huns are, build it big, build it heavy, it will last for the thousand year Reich! lol hehehe

I like the 7.62X39 AR's......

Must be it. Great target gun (for the reasons you mentioned)...just doesn't seem like it will perform like one (2-3in. doesn't quite cut it).

I like the 7.62X39 AR's...
Are there any good magazines for it?...looks like i'm gonna' need em'.

:)

I'm glad that it takes AK-47 mags.

Otherwise, though, I cannot see any point to it. It's a fairly basic, ugly, stamped-sheetmetal rifle with a heavy trigger pull and an obese total weight, which will probably sell for $1000-1200 or so. Does it have any benefit over an actual AKM-clone (semiauto) that is also a basic, ugly, stamped-sheetmetal rifle, but with a less heavy trigger, a couple lbs less total weight, and a price of $350-800 depending on the model and quality level you want? Oh and the AKM-clone will generally also get you a chrome-lined, hammer forged barrel, and a bazillion part options for repairs and accessories.

Who cares if it is better, or if it is worse, or whether it can be smaller or whatever... I mean really guys, with this carbine, or any other we are likely to purchase, what difference does it really make? We're going to the range, pop of some rounds, enjoy our day, come home, clean the firearms and be happy.

If this version of the G3 makes someone happy, go for it.

Truly isn't the test something like whether an individual enjoys one toy more than another? You like AK's, he likes AR's, I like these silly PTR91s. Meh. Whatever amuses you I guess.

I think it looks cool which is part of owning a weapon.

Nothing to do with this discussion but no, no that's not what weapons are for. They're not sunglasses.

3" at 100 yards doesn't sound that impressive to me. Are regular G3's comparable in accuracy?

I want a PTR 44! :what:

THAT is cool! (They should consider an alternate loading of 7.62x39 for ammo costs, but I understand the original caliber)

At 9.8 pounds, the recoil will be very light.

If you like the 30-30, then I don't see a reason not to like the 7.62X39mm. About the same ballistics.

So, if you ever wanted a 30-30 assault rifle, this is about as close as you can get.

I like my 308 PTR 91, so I won't be trading for one of these.

Actually, wouldn't THIS be as close to a StG as you'd get?
Ooooh, I want that PTR44...even though I need another caliber to load for like a hole in my head... And yes, just like sunglasses, just to have! I have an excellent rifle in 7.62x39mm, my vz-58, but that PTR-32 looks rather neat, nice that it takes standard AK mags.
TheHossUSMC, I think the trajectory on my 7.62x39mm rifles would drop considerably by 300 yards, look more like a rainbow. I can get 2-3 inch groups with the CZ-527, or 5 or so with the vz-58 at 200 yards, bullet drop is about 5-6 inches with my reloads, haven't gotten any father out than that yet.

I am really happy that an american manufacturer came out with a semi auto carbine, in this caliber, that takes AK mags! Plus I always thought HK93/53's were neat and this is the closest I can get.

I'd love to have one but it's out of my price range; for $1300 I'd be looking at 308 stuff.

2"-3" groups with Wolf would be impressive enough.

AK mags only look good in AK rifles...that being said, it does fit a niche for those who don't like AKs but like the 7.62x39 cartridge.

I think it is a hell of a neat idea... if one came about, I would definitely be interested...

Agreed, the only thing that would hold me back is other (much lighter) offerings.

:)

Hey, don't get too hung up on the accuracy measurements, you know how att intel is...it isn't!
Most PTR's I have shot, shoot 1"-2" at that distance, keeping in mind those who would drool over an AK, which we all know starts life in the womb as a 'shotgun' and matures into a rifle looking thing....lol hehehehe

I wouln't mind having one but have been burnt by this idea before ... so I'll let someone else be the beta tester!

When Special Weapons came out with their SW-32 I was stoked ...
... and highly disappointed when I finally got it.

The pre-production advertising was that you could use any AK mag in it ... and I guess you could but the only mag it feed reliably with was a 5 round Chinese mag.

After this was determined to be a manufacturing problem, they came out with an "upgrade" that cost an additional $200.

My biggest issue was the recoil ... it was as harsh as a Turkish Mauser shooting surplus 8mm machine gun ammo. The second time I took it out to shoot I used a modified G3 stock with a heavy buffer and HK21 recoil pad. Sold it after a few months when I decided I was not going to do the "upgrade".

The actual HK-32 used a proprietary mag as the generic AK mags just have too much slop in them ... at least that's what Special Weapons claimed but couldn't explain how the up-grade fixed the problem.

Here's a pic of my (long gone) SW-32
