Looking into purchasing the SW99 compact in 9mm. Now, I have shot various other 9mm, using the Luger 9mm. I don't know a whole lot about 9mm-.45 ammo. Can I use 9mm Lugers in the S&W? Just a bit confused...

If in doubt check with a qualified gunsmith, he/she should be able to tell you what size ammo you will need.

9mm Para, 9x19mm, 9mm Luger, it's all the same. It should be marked with something to that effect.

if it were a different kind of 9mm then it would be marked different, such as 9x18mm, 9mm Mak, .380, 9x17mm, 9x21mm, 9x23mm.

Hope this helps.

People may disagree with me on this, and thats O.K.; even though there is better available ammo out there, the 100 rd. Value Pack Ammo from WalMart (115gr. FMJ) is the standard range ammo that I would want any 9mm pistol to be able to cycle. After that, I'd try Speer 124 gr. Gold Dot Jacketed Hollow Points (GDHPs) for defensive carry. If the gun can cycle these two rounds reliably, and with reasonable accuracy, then you have your bases covered for range / target use and also for defensive / carry use.

I have shot a "poop" load of this through my p99. Not one problem

Petro, welcome to the High Road!

The Smith your looking at uses the standard 9MM luger ammunition.

The user manual will give you specifics on what ammo to use. Also, most handguns have the munition type on the barrel or somewhere on the pistol.

Winchester White box ammo is the best deal going so far. $9.95 per 100 is a good deal and can be found at Wal-Mart.

Thanks!

Thanks all for the responses. I'll be looking at that SW99 in early 05, around tax return time. Also will be post AWB, and I might be able to pick up some hicap mags, if they manufacture them by then. Can't wait....

petro.....Be sure to try that trigger BEFORE buying one.

I can not personally handle the trigger action on that pistol.

The Browning, Colt, Glock, SIG and others are MUCH easier to master.

IMO

Chalk up another vote for the Gold Dot 124 in most 9mm guns. It tends to feed well (although this must be checked in any semi-auto!) and it works.
