I am not a hunter or a collector, just wanted a handgun for protection. My choice is a CZ 75b stainless 9mm. My problem is i live in California and I have no idea of the gun laws here. I went to a local gun store yesterday and the owner said it was very difficult to find a CZ that was Calif legal?
Can anyone shed some light on where or how I could purchase this pistol.
I did come acrossed this article that says the CZ 75b 9mm lugar is Ca legal? Does the gun shop owner not know what he is talking about?

December 2000
CZ-USA has six handgun models approved for sale in California.

1 January 2001 The California Department of Justice requires that all pistols sold in their state pass a quality/performance test.

CZ-USA is proud that all six handguns tested passed and are available for sale immediately.

Approved firearms:

CZ 75B 9mm Luger
CZ 75B .40 S&W;
CZ 75B Compact 9mm Luger
CZ 75B Compact PCR 9mm Luger
CZ 75B SA 9mm Luger
CZ 97B .45 ACP

The laws in CA are crazy. A gun needs to be on an approved list to be legal in CA, and the manufacturer needs to work with the state to have their guns added to this list. You can have two virtually identical guns and have one be legal, one illegal. Your best bet is to find a good local shop and work with them to get what you want, but if your pistol of choice is not on the list, you can't legally get it in CA. You might want to check out the calgun website, there are a bunch of CA dealers that participate in the forums over there.

Gun shop owner is either an idiot or trying to sell you on a higher profit gun.

CZ 75's are plenty available in CA. Typical CZ75 price in CA on the used market is 425-500. A stainless or Satin Nickle finish will fetch a lot more.

New they were creeping up to 550-600 when i left CA last September.

If you want a CZ75, stick with it! its a fantastic firearm that is just amazingly accurate! Sign on to Calguns.net it is a great resource and has a very active For sale forum.

Last CZ75b i bought while i lived in CA was a perfect shape cz-75b .40 with 11 magazines for $450.

Keep looking, plenty out there.

Currently...
CZ USA only offers one CZ75 that is all stainless steel, that model is the CZ75B Stainless Limited Edition.
CZ USA also offers one CZ75 with a stainless steel frame and blued slide, that model is the CZ75 Tactical Sport.

There are currently 13 CZ75 pistols on the CA DOJ approved list.

Unfortunately, the CZ75B Stainless Limited Edition is not on the approved list.
But, the CZ75 Tactical Sport is on the approved list.

Spend your money elsewhere.

what part of CA are you located at?

I'm living in folsom..close to wild Sports..25 miles from river city..been reading about the CZ and didn't realize they made a left handed model CZ 85..but it is not on the infamous DOJ list..I also like the compact version of the 75b..

Yeah you might have to just drive farther to a different gun store or find someone online willing to ship to an FFL in CA. The gun shops down here in SoCal have plenty of CZ's.

Yes the CZ75B is California legal. I was looking at one today at Turner Outdoormans in California. They are going up in price. The sales man hinted that they are going to put the CZ75B on sale. I live in Southern California too and I assure you that the CZ75B is being sold. They are a hot item now. Here is a link to the Department of Justice web site that has a list of the legal guns approved for California. Also, all the gun laws are found at this web site. Have you recently bought a gun in California? You need a handgun safety card to buy a handgun in California. You can get one at most good gun shops. You need to pass a basic test. Anyway good luck,

i have a student that i'm working with who just bought her first handgun...and it is a CZ 75BD. it's going through her FFL as i type...i think she got it from out of state. we're going to take it out to the Cordova range or the Gunroom as soon as she gets it

if you were at Wildsports, the operative word wasn't legal, it was find...meaning they didn't have one they could sell you right then. River City Gun Exchange is pretty up front with you and usually have better prices too.

your best bet to to look on the list for the model you'd like, find it on-line, figure in shipping, DROS and FFl fee, then go compare it with what you can find locally...i think i got my last 4-5 guns from FL or TX

Go elsewhere. As so many have already pointed out, there are plenty of approved models of CZ available for sale.

Either that store you went to didn't carry CZs or he was simply clueless about hi-cap magazines not available for CZs in CA.

Dunno if you've ever handled a CZ before, but I'd recommend you renting and shooting one before deciding that a CZ75B is what you have to get. It may turn out that the gun may not fit your hands for some reason.
