Scary trip to the range

RSOs yelled at him first, and then proceeded to aim ar-15s at him after he didn't listen (he didn't know they were talking to him).

Your range rules are enforced by lethal force!!:what:

I don't know your state statutes, but in most states those guys could be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

This is one range I would never go to.

Its amazing that people are attacking my post because I am simply saying you DONT POINT THE DAMN GUN AT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Educating someone on the proper use of their firearm is one thing but you should know not to point the gun at someone or something. IF thats not your view then I dont want to be ANYWHERE around ANY of you that CANT COMPREHEND THAT!!! Especially when you have a firearm!

As an RSO you, (me included) are not a "tough guy" you're there to keep the range safe, nothing more. If the people are new shooters you watch them until you're satisfied they are safe. Most new shooter's I've encountered are nervous as hell with a gun in their hands, and you can tell very quickly who they are.
The worse thing any RSO to do with any shooter is come on like some idiot yelling, I can promise you that shooter will not only be scared to death but very likely cause a more dangerous situation. And never pull/draw/point a gun at anyone unless there is immediate danger to you.

Judge the people 1st and the range 2nd. If the range doesn't work to correct the problem, then leave it. There are idiots like that at every range, remember, owning a gun != competence with a gun.

Well put..........

It's Ben Avery, near my house here in AZ. Good range, and I've seen this happen another time when my Step-Dad blew up a M1 Garand. They didn't know if he was going nuts or if he was just hurt. After they assessed he was hurt they got him to a hospital. Ends up he loaded slower burning power than spec and bent the operating rod.

I'm fine with this as RSO need to keep everyone safe. I'd be pissed if it was me, but would get over it. It wouldn't be assault in my opinion as your at a gun range and they could prove they only did this in defense for other shooters.

I was at a public range one Sunday morning and the only other shooter was a young woman. I watched as she aimed her PPK at the target with both index fingers on the slide. I called to her that she could injure herself holding the weapon in that manner. I was quickly told to mind my own &%@#! business. When she fired the end of her left index finger was sheared off
and to top it off she dropped the gun on the concrete and it fired again putting a hole in the bench I was sitting on. She was screaming for help and took off running for the office leaving her gun where it fell. I secured the weapon, cleaned out my shorts and left the range as soon as I could.

After reading some of these stories, All I can say is I am grateful I live in an area where I can improvise my own range anytime I want to make the effort...
WOW!

trex, I would pay a buck to see that one on youtube.

A guy I grew up with, his dad told a story about working as an RSO at a municipal range, and a guy came in with a S&W revolver. He started shooting, our guy notices that these shots are particularly loud. He asked the guy what kind of ammo he was using, he said handloads.

"Really? What kind of powder are you using? How much?"

I dunno, this stuff my dad had lying around. I fill it up almost to the top and put a bullet in."

Reasons to participate in organized shooting sports

I enjoy many types of handgun shooting. I have found that people shooting
organized events such as Bullseye, Steel, USPSA or trap and skeet events are better shots, safer and more fun to be with then the run of the mill cap buster.
I learn more from better shooters.

Holy crap Squeaky Duck, any of you think about going down there and actually talking to these guys and explaining gun saftey rules insted of playing IDIOT cowboy!!???

People pointing guns at each other to make a point? ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME??!@

Everyone at that range that day should get some sense or perhaps just sell their guns. Those SF guys were not the only ones there with safety issues. Not by a long shot. JEEZ

That is NOT the way to handle that situation. Period.

Re-read the post. The rangemaster already told them to stop.

Sounds to me like their behavior was enough to make everyone on the range fear for their lives, including the rangemaster. In this case it was likely justified as unfortunate as it sounds.

Let's remember that not everyone who visits ranges are saintly. William Russell Matix and Michael Platt got their guns and cars by shooting people at public shooting ranges.
