Men and women of the Revolver forum, I come before you today with a request.

Could we please, pretty pretty please, for the love of John Moses Browning and all that is holy and good in the universe, please, not bring up the stupid S&W lock in every single thread in the revolver forum?

Yes, yes, we know that the lock is evil, and was personally designed by Satan and his minions. We know that there are thousands of documented cases where an anonymous person on teh intraweb was killed by ninjas when his lock equipped S&W actually caused the gun to explode into a giant Jerry Bruckheimer style slow-motion fireball.

And if you really really really feel the need to post, just to say something like:

i would never buy a revolver with a lock on it ill by a taurus instead

Please stop, back away from your keyboard, and think. Is it worth it? Because we already know you won't buy a S&W, because the locking mechanism burned your village, and raped your horses to death. And then I want you to ponder, since the thread was titled, something like "what kind of holster for my 625" or "640 vs. 686" or "Mateba vs. Roth-Steyr" or "can I shoot 40 S&W in my 610 that I already own and love" do you really need to share your hatred for the lock?

By my calculation, there are, let's see, three main brands of revolvers. Figure that 63% of the threads in revolvers are about two of those brands, and they both have locks. So 90% of the threads here will have at least five posts where somebody has said that they won't buy a gun with a lock. And then the other 10% of the threads have at least one post where somebody felt the need to say that they hate the lock, so let me do the math (and I do math for a living) that comes out to 10,875,925 posts about how you won't buy a gun with a lock.

This is especially irksome, when the thread originator is asking a question and puts in that first post, the note:
And I don't care about the lock. Please don't post about the lock. I'm asking about this new gun, and I'm fully aware it has a lock. AND I DON'T CARE. If you post about how you don't like the lock, I'm going to go into the bathroom and saw through my wrists with a Garden Weasel, and I mean it.

and the next post is about how someone would never buy a gun with a lock, because everytime you do, God kills a kitten. Then there are seven posts where somebody felt the need to say "+ 1".

And on that note, be aware that clinical studies have shown that viewing +1 repeatedly on internet forums causes eye cancer and sterility in lab rats.

I'm not really a revolver person. I only own two revolvers. One has a lock. One does not. I'm suspicious of the gun with the lock, and I believe that it stole one of my credit cards, and racked up huge charges watching Pay Per View pornography and calling 1-900 numbers based out of Thailand. The one with out the lock mows my lawn, does the dishes, and fetches my slippers when I return home from a hard day at work.

But when I start to open threads in General Discussion and I see:

SlapHappy.45: Well, when zombies overrun my town, I'll use my new 686.

RocketBoy99: The lock on the 686 will fail, and the zombies will eat you.

Tooter308: Damn right i would never by a gun with a lock

Frogboy: +1

S&WisTheDevil: +1

And when I can't enjoy a good old fashioned "what gun for zombies" thread in GD, I start to get really cranky. If you revolver guys can't keep it contained in here, then it becomes my problem.

For example, this is from an actual post in Legal & Political just last week:

Mug the Happy Bulldog: George Bush is really an anamatronic robot controlled by Carl Rove and the Illuminati. Mexicans are taking over. Global warming ate my leftovers. Fear NAFTA!

Frogboy: +1

Skippy1911: I would never buy a gun with the lock on it!

Huptard: +1 infinity!

Now that don't even make any sense!

So I'm asking you guys, please, please, quit telling us in every single thread about how much you hate the lock. We already know that you would never buy one.

Please, just let it go. If there is a real reason to stick the fact that you despise the lock, then go for it. I don't know, like if the thread is called "do you like the lock on S&W revolvers" that would probably be a great time to refresh our memory that you despise them with a passion so great and infinite that it reverberates throughout time and eternity.

But the rest of the time, we really just don't care...

So if there's no trashing the IL, is pining for the days when S&W made revolvers without them allowed???

Unfortunately, there is a percentage of folks who just have to whinge and whine about something. If they can't do it about the S&W lock they just switch to something else.

Correia,

You have described this execrable phenomenon to a T. I considered writing this post this very morning (after reading...well, I don't even have to explain, do I?), as I have considered it approximately every time I've entered the revolver forum for the last several years. And I AM a revolver guy, and that's a lot of times. But I'm glad I didn't, because you did it much better than I would have.

I would only add two suggestions.

The first is: Please, for the love of something delicious, make this a sticky, so that we can direct perpetrators of this fanatical and disruptive antilock fundamentalism to it.

And second: Perhaps such a sticky could include a simple directive to USE THE BLESSED SEARCH FUNCTION if one wishes to know about how many legions of people have fallen to the mighty lock, or how to make a foil hat that will fit my lock, or did you hear about the guy on ar15.com who didn't even have a revolver but still went to hell because he thought impure thoughts about the lock?

OF COURSE, if anyone has an actual new question or new information about the lock, they should feel free to start an original thread to share this cutting inquiry or statistical gem; and then, I will fly to their location to personally congratulate them, clinging to the legs of the flying monkeys that just emerged from my backside.

So to sum up: Bravo, and Encore

Add an infernal....er..... Internal lock to Correia then we can hate his posts too....:neener:

Locks make the guns safer. :p

Need internal locks on all autos now:eek:

I can see where having to confront this issue at every turn as a moderator would bug the heck of you. The "lock thing" slipped into a thread without rhyme or reason can be maddening ! I just roll my eyes and move on when I read that stuff...it's gotten REALLY old.

So for our fine moderators sake, let's give him a break ! I join the call for a moratorium on the "lock issue", particularly when it's introduced without restraint ! :)

- regards to all

I haven't been here long, and I already notice the lock luddites taking over every thread. I feel sorry for your old timers. You MUST be ready to saw your wrists off with a Garden Weasel.

+1, bro :D

Funny

I mean it, that was very well written. Humor used to make a point. I rarely laugh out loud when reading, but I did reading your post.
My CCW was a fairly new S&W 642. It had never malfunctioned, but after reading your post I bashed it to tiny pieces with a sledge hammer, melted it into the shape of a cross, and buried in a cemetary by the light of a full moon. Then I moved to another town and changed my name. I now worry that the lock is reading this post and will find me.

That was pretty wise to do... I hate the locks and the locks hate me.

Dont tell them though... rumor has it that they're looking for me.:uhoh:

Ah, but the problem is that members, mostly new ones, keep stiring the pot by starting threads like: "Explain the lock to me?" "Why is the lock good or bad?" "How do I get rid of the lock?" and on and on...... :banghead:

Does you official moderators want me to ignore these, or deal with them with a P.M., or what??? Or I could recommend that they go to the search feature and we won't ever hear from them again...

And for the record, I have gotten through some threads without mentioning the lock even once. :what:

Even when the subject was black powder cap & ball revolvers...

And I'll never buy one of them if it has "the lock." :D

I must comment. I'm a young guy - in my mid twenties - and my first revolver was an early post war long action S&W M&P. That revolver got me hooked on S&W's - I purchased two more within a year. The old S&Ws are beautiful; the fit, finish, and craftsmanship are impeccable. The guns with MIM parts are just not the same - the quality isn't there. The lock is functionally unnecessary (I'll use a trigger lock if I need to lock my revolver when its outside the safe), adds unnecessary parts, and ruins the beautiful asthetics of the S&W revolver. Essentially the lock is what pushed fans of old school S&Ws over the edge.

I'll make you guys a deal. I'll not talk about the lock. I'll refer to the revolvers are pre or post MIM; pinned barrel or non pinned barrel. Just don't call me names like luddite.

Yes, yes, we know that the lock is evil, and was personally designed by Satan and his minions.
Actually as I understand it Satan wasn't directly involved. The lock came about under the direction of sub-minions in the US DOJ and HUD. These sub-minions reported to head minion Bill and his keeper Hillary, commonly known as the Hillabeast. From what history I've read Satan gave Bill & the Hillabeast authority in the US for Bill's two presedential terms, and pretty much let them run the show as his agents. In light of that I'd say Satan was inderectly involved, at best, with the implementation of the lock. ;)

Luddites not-withstanding, I think it's mostly when, in the middle of a thread about the best way to prepare venison sausage, someone "not-so-casually", in classic nonsequitur form, brings up the "lock isssue."....that drives most of us crazy ! ;) :) It's the "Jimmy Swaggart" syndrome......proselytizing generally just makes everyone yawn.

Everyone knows that if you're preparing any type of sausage in the vicinity of a revolver defaced with the lock it weakens the casings causing them to deteriorate within hours. Please tell me you know about this and were only joking about locks being nonsequitur in a sausage prep discussion. :scrutiny:

Ah !...if only all the "lock issue" discussions were so seamlessly woven together with the main thread's topic......we would all be so thrilled ! :) "....but three wars back we called Sauerkraut 'liberty cabbage' and we called liberty cabbage 'super slaw' and back then a suitcase was known as a 'Swedish lunch box'. Of course, nobody knew that but me. Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling....." :D

Who can afford those new Smiths with the locks? I'm a dirt poor Colt fan searching for change to buy some Oodles of Noodles for dinner. :D

I have been doing background checks on the Lock Nuts. It appears from computer analyses of the reflexive jargon of their posts that they are robotic viruses programmed by Islamic Commmunists and Hillary Clinton to destroy all Internet gun forums by rendering them unreadable and terminally boring.
