Nightcrawler- I seriously doubt that using the gun with the lock disabled would lead to a criminal conviction (although I do not rule out an overzealous, anti-gun prosecutor trying) but I believe without reservation that you very likely WOULD be subject to civil action if a modified gun was ever involved in any sort of accidental shooting.

I have asked 3 lawyers about this and they all grinned and said they would LOVE to discover that the gun's safety device had been tampered with if they were suing a gun owner for negligence. If they had only been THINKING about suing before discovering the gun had been modified they would DEFINITELY be suing afterwards.

Shrug off the possibility if you like. I do not take civil liability lightly. Want your life ruined? Have a lawyer come after you for negligence.
 
And yet another idea for a tongue-in-cheek "Please stop saying that, already!" thread.
