I'm Back, Baby

Holy thread revival!

I just thought I'd post an update for those of you who care. I've gotten to the round-in-circles part of the ordeal.

John Thompson, whom Master Blaster recommended me, understood my situation and was very helpful. Short version: Good call, Master Blaster. Thanks for the recommend.

He informed me that I can get a release from a doctor that will make me legal again. The hard part (his exact words were "good luck with this, wish I could help") is finding a doctor who will actually do it.

I imagine it's some sort of liability thing. Interesting to me how the gate only seems to go one way.

Anyway, I've been spending my time calling around to various shrinks in the area asking the question, and those few who have even bothered to call me back have all said "no" thus far. So the hunt continues.

Are there any doctors in the house?

I've been following your situation here, and on gunb+++++ (same handle). I'm glad that you were able to find some optimism! Do you have to have a shrink sign off, or just any old MD? Would you be able to extend your search out of state or are you limited on that?

Can't help you:( but maybe thinking about those questions will help you!

Well, I was told that it has to be some sort of head doctor. Otherwise, I'm buddies with a dentist (you still need an MD to be one, IIRC) but Mr. Thompson said that wouldn't cut it.

I dunno about the out of state thing. Food for thought.

Dentists aren't MDs. The only "head doctor" that fits your description would be a psychiatrist; those are actual doctors (MD's) who specialize in such matters.

You sure?

I could have sworn that you had to be an MD in order to go on to practice dentistry.

I'll have to dig that up again.

You need a degree in Dentistry to practice it. It may share some characteristics with Medicine but it is not an MD degree. Dentists either have a DDS (doctor of dental surgery) degree or DMD (doctor of dental medicine) degree. It may be a professional designation, and it may confer upon the dentist the title of dr, but it does not make that person an actual "doctor" (MD).

"Head stuff", legally, involves psychiatrists. They have both the MD and a PhD in Psychology.

I guess: See if GOA or JFPO will tell you of a psychiatrist among their membership. Same for NRA.
