So I went to my local range/shop today to pick up my p2000sk.

The gun had arrived the past Monday and I tried to pick it up the saturday following it.

When I started filling out the forms, the manager slightly yelled at the guy for letting me fill out a form before making sure they had my gun in.

They checked their sheet and told me that the guy that sent the gun didn't send his FFL w/ the package. I immediately called up the seller and asked him to fax his FFL. The shop keepers gave me their fax number. like 20 mins later, nothing came in. I called again and he said he couldn't get the fax machine.

The guys at the shop then told me that they forgot the phone lines were down and will probably be up later in the afternoon. They insisted that he needn't bother sending his FFL via mail. I called the seller FFL at like 6pm and he said he had tried at 5pm but still couldn't get a line.

My main concern is why my FFL did not contact the guy when they didn't have his FFL and would not transfer w/o it... they didn't contact me of course. I know they got the package that Monday. Is this something that I'm supposed to handle anyway? or is my FFL shop doin something fishy?

Your seller should have at least enclosed a copy of his FFL with the gun if he didn't send it before.

Can they accept a scanned and emailed copy?

It sounds more like your local shop is being run by Mutt and Jeff. Never overlook the chance that something unusual might be simple incompetence :)

WHY does the seller have to send a FFL???? Is that some local rule? I have NEVER had to have the SELLER send a copy of FFL. It is the BUYING party that MUST have a FFL (or run it thru a FFL) in order to purchase via mail/UPS/etc over state lines.
Odds are they are ticked you didn't order/buy it thru them at their over inflated prices. Hope you can find a better shop.

Not an expert but if the seller is an FFL holder I'd think he'd have to send his FFL to the receiving FFl holder so that he could log it in his "bound book".
FFLs have a certain time frame to log firearms into their bound book. It sounds to me that somone didn't log it in, and when you went to pick it up they caught their mistake, and are covering their behinds. With the ATF being the ATF not a bad idea. It doesn't sound fishy to me. But then I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

"WHY does the seller have to send a FFL???? "

It is a deep mystery to me but none of the local shops will do a tranfer without one. It's a widespread policy and we are stuck with it.

And people wonder why dealer are starting to either refuse transfers or up the pricing. You want a busy dealer to drop what he is doing, make long distence calls on his dime in an attempt to get the information he needed. Was the shipping FFL instructed to include a copy in the shipment? For $25.00, you want him to spend time away from his customers and other business on something that proivides not profit? Soon the prices will be twice what they are now.

Assuming the FFL is already on file, then it's $20 for 10 minutes worth of work. Not a bad deal in my book. Even if you have to make some phone calls, you still made some money. Plus you have to think of it as a way to build good relationships with customers. Unless it's something I can't find locally, I'd rather just buy locally.

I also like to buy locally, but the local shop is outrageous. They want $50 for a transfer, and they price guns $50-100 above retail! I want to support local business, but some make it very hard to do so.

And sometimes it's just attitude. I went to a local shop that I had been in a few times and even bought from once to ask the guy about his FFL so I could have something he didn't stock shipped there. It was a small shop. Well the second I mentioned it the guy got a really nasty attitude and started talking to me like I was an idiot. Like I was cheating him out of money or something because I wanted a weapon he didn't carry. I'm telling you, if you want to people to buy from you you don't treat them like crap.

I ended up going somewhere else and they had a much better attitude about it. Bought some ammo from them when the gun came in. They helped me out and I repaid their help by buying other stuff from them.
