I climbed up in a stand I haven't been in since last year. It has an office chair in it and I was preparing to sit down when two flying squirrels came running out of the back of the chair! One of them landed on my leg before scurrying up the tree.
I will NOT show a picture of my "trophy" but it very nearly involved soiling myself.
I've killed nothing but squirrels this year. Here's the latest (and my first air gun kill). I've taken others this year with a Henry. 22, various shotguns, a Ruger Single Six and a S&W m66 (.38 spcl 158grn LSWC).
I've attached the only pheasant we got this year. It's a very rare aquatic pheasant. Ok, so it was a carp trapped in a cut-off backwater that was well on its way to dying anyway.
I got 5 does this year. According to who you ask we lost 50% to 80% of our deer herd to diseases. I know we lost a lot of deer in this area. Last year I would see as many as 15 deer a day in my backyard. I saw 4 deer in my backyard the entire season. I only killed two deer from the loft of my barn this year. In years past I would use all my doe tags from my barn. We get 4 doe tags with our big game license. If you use those 4 you get 2 more doe tags for $10. You can literally kill all the does you want.
First year I ' ve only taken one deer, but it was a nice one ( where I ' m from)
Passed a ton of doe and small bucks opening day of gun season, and never had a shot after that. Now on to coyote and fox!
My success can't be measured in meat this year...as I haven't brought much home. I have had a good time and introduced 2 kids to hunting though so that certainly counts. So here are two smiling kids...ok 1 smiling kid since I have the other pic in another thread.
closest I came to getting a deer this year in PA was finding this one. Sat down on a log to watch a trail for a while and looked behind me and saw it. Untouched by porcupines so I took it with me. Unfortunately it didn't qualify for the buck pool. lol
