A Wheelgunner's "Combat Rig"

As a matter of interest, we have been reminded that in Tennessee, it is a "handgun carry permit."

The emphasis is on "handgun" and does not extend to knives or other bladed weapons nor any other item that falls under lethal weapons. Get caught, in Tennessee, wearing one of those machetes pictured, and you're busted.

Not since last July 1st. TN dumped their antiquated "intent to go armed" laws regarding knives. Automatic (switch blade) knives are now legal and there are no longer any blade length restrictions.

They also made it legal to carry any loaded firearm in your vehicle without a permit, as long as you're not a prohibited person and have a legal right to be in the vehicle.

Love the concept, Barry, look forward to the pics when it's all done.
Cooldill and Gordon, you guys have some pretty slick set ups there, very nice.

I've always felt that my Krebs Custom .45ACP S&W M28 "CROWBAR" would be what a modern day gunfighter might carry if autos hadn't taken over the universe. This one of the only, if not the only, custom revolvers Marc Krebs ever built, it was commissioned by an IL cop back around 1987. It doesn't see much use but one of these days I need to put together a rig for it.

Thanks, and what a cool revolver you have! Was it carried by a Southern Illinois cop? That seems like it would be a GREAT fighting revolver to be sure. I think it most certainly deserves a "combat rig" of its own!

My "Bar B que" combat rig is a model 19 nickle 3" in a real Tio Sam Myers floral holster on a Tony lama horsehair embellished belt with solid silver and gold buckle.I was on the Monterey County Sheriff's posse in the 80s and one had to style.

But the OP said .44 mag n frame so in simplicity here it is for me. This is serious man or beast stopping power here and can be carried quite nicely concealed if needs be.

Here is a S&W M22-4. If I were to go back to badge work, it would be the revolver I would carry.

How about those grips! Details?

Thanks guys. Those grips are custom, made from ebony, with ivory inserts that have little crowbars scrimshawed on them.
They look AH-MAY-ZING!!! How many of these crowbar revolvers were made? Also, was yours used by a Southern Illinois cop? I'm from there. :D

That is the only one, it was named by the cop that had it built. Marc Krebs didn't do much revolver work, he was building 1911s back then, that might be the only revolver he ever did. He was not from southern IL, he was from some town a little northwest of Chicago.

The only cop I know in IL is Mark Drollinger, he's the Hoopeston PD chief.

Those are period Fuzzy Farrant Combat Zebrawood on that nickle model 19 snub.Made for cops they have a view window routed in to keep the bottom of grip serial # in view.

Gordon

I thought those grips might have been made by Fuzzy Farrant. They look fantastic! Perfect for your BBQ rig.

Everyone complains about the cylinder diameter when it is not the problem. The difficulty with concealed revolver carry is grip length. The current trend toward long grips is great for competition, but terrible for concealment. "Traditional" holsters with nearly no forward cant exacerbate the problem. Many holster makers compound the problem with thick materials and by placing the loops on the face of the holster. Split loops, .1" thick kydex (or thinner leather/horsehide) and excellent leather holster design help mitigate the problem. Short grips, or swept back grips, go a long way toward enhancing concealment.

Here is my old Safariland rig. It worked well for several years before I retired it.
