I'm in the process of buying a gun safe.
The dealer I went to made me a very good deal on a 2005 leftover, Champion brand, Triumph model safe 72 1/2X 41 X 28. I haven't taken delivery yet.
The salesman said the body of the safe was 3/16 inch thick.
The new Champion Triumph safe is only 10 gauge.
Is there any one here who has a Triumph model?
I'm trying to find someone who knows or written specifications for the safe from 2005.
I don't think the salesman would lie to me, I just want to be sure the body is 3/16 inch thick and not the thinner 10 gauge they now sell.

I have information from '06 that says it's 10 gauge. I don't have anything on them going back to '05.

10 gauge is 1/8". It should be simple enough to look at one of the edges of the door frame and measure it.

The easiest place to look at the steel thickness is through the dehumidifier hole in the back, bottom corner. I think you are wise to check, 05 was when they changed and some 05's were 10g. I am assuming from where you live that you are looking at that safe at Eastern Security. The owner there is Roger Lavalle and he is a great guy. If he said it was 3/16" I am sure he is right but mistakes happen. I personally own a Triumph t25 and it is a good safe. In fact the old 3/16" safes were on of my favorites in the industry.

I have one bought in 2003. No idea what thickness, but seems to work well so far (nobody has broken in yet and tried to pry it open or cut with a torch or other tools:D).

Keep in mind that for the purists among us (I am not one of them), this is NOT a safe, but rather a residential security container. Any experienced thief with good tools and a little time will get in. Any bad thief with a bad tools and a lot of time will also get in. The true level of security lies somewhere in your definition of good thieves, bad thieves, good tools, bad tools, a little time, and a lot of time.

I figure it will protect my guns in a fire, and will prevent an easy "smash and grab" theft by local druggies looking for easy items to steal and pawn. The difference in wall thickness probably doesn't mean a hill of beans in any case.

Yes, It is Eastern Security safes. Roger wasn't in on Saturday so I talked to Rich. He seemed to know his stuff but, I just received a reply from Champion safes and they say it is 10 gauge.
Rich told me it was 3/16 thick body and that 2005 was the last year for that.

I tried to look through my catalogues, They dont have years on them. I would check the hole. It is real easy to tell. I have here at my store a fourth quarter 04' t50 that was in an attempted burglary. This safe has the 3/16" body with the heavy door. If the safe they have there is an early 05' it will have the heavy body. Roger will know. There is a big differance between 3/16" and 1/8". In my testing years ago I put 4'x4' pieces of 12g, 10g and 3/16" on pallets and tried to beat through them with a splitting maul.
12g took about 6 wacks to get a hole big enough to reach my arm through, 10g took about 15 and I could not beat through 3/16".

dakotascott, thanks for your help, I appreciate it greatly.
Roger is out of the store until 2/24/08.
I e-mailed Rich at Eastern, I'm just waiting for him to get back to me.
I'm glad I found this site.
There is a true wealth of information here.:)

I had a conference call with Rich ( Eastern Security safes ) and Mike (Champion safes) about the 2005 Triumph series safe.
It does indeed have a 3/16 inch thick body, so I purchased it.
I can't say enough about Rich & Roger, they explained everything in a clear, easy to understand way for the 1st time safe buyer.
Rich showed me some safes that have been broken into and what it takes to crack them.
I know I'm not buying a TRUE safe, but a RCS safe, but I think it will be a damn sight better than using no safe at all.:)
