I am an unlicensed individual selling a rifle to an out of state 01 licensed dealer and have just a few questions on how to proceed.

First, which service to use, FedEx or UPS? Any experiences relating to cost, service delivery and customer satisfaction? Which one is best or is there an alternate that I have overlooked?

Secondly, I am in possession of the dealer's FFL (yes, it checked out on ATF's FFL ez check), does it need to accompany the rifle during shipping, be presented to the shipper at the customer counter, or what?

Any other tips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

As far as I know FedEx or UPS should both ship it (Or even USPS since it's a long gun).

Since it's going to a licensee you shouldn't have any problems. Perfectly legal for a non-licensee to ship to an out of state licensee.

Legally you're good. UPS(customer counter, not one of the outlet places), USPS, FedEx will all do it for you. They may not know that they'll do it for you, so a copy of their policies can be helpful, just in case the counter worker doesn't know them. They have no requirement that I'm aware of that says they need a copy of the FFL. Declare what it is, but don't mark it in any way.

Long guns may be sent by non-FFLs vis US Mail and it is oftsen cheaper than common carrier. I never tell the clerk and they've never asked.

Shipping Rifles

Hi, It's finding the box and hoping the thieveing ba$***** don't "loose " your package thats the hard part. What Me attitude ! LOL .........WVLeo

When I ship rifles I always use the USPS.

It is cheaper. You insure the rifle. They require a signature to deliver it to the FFL dealer. It has to go priority.

You are required by postal law to inform them that there is a rifle in the box. You can to go the USPS site and get the rules.

At one post office I get no grief. At another post office they literally thought I was doing something criminal. I had brought their rules along with me. When they brought the supervisor out he knew the rules. No problem.

You will pay three to five times the amount USPS charges if you go fedex or ups.
