I'm thinking about picking up a CZ P-01 for my daily carry gun, but there are a couple things I'd like to do to make it more practical for me. First, Trijicon Night Sights. Has anyone tried the Trijicon sigths on your P-01? Also, I'd really like a set of Hogue rubber grips, but I'm not sure their CZ-75 grips will fit the compact frame of the P-01. If not, do you know where I could get a comfortable rubber grip set for the P-01?

Finally, what have you done to make your P-01 practical for you? Has anyone polished parts for smoother trigger pull? Have you installed after-market springs?

Thanks for your feedback!

PS - I carry a G19 right now, but it is about as ergonomic and fun to shoot as a hair dryer. (In all fairness it is accurate and dependable.)

Yes. The sights made for the CZ75 fullsize work.

I heard they will, but you'll have to take a razor and cut off the bottom. The rubber grips that come with the P01 are very very good though, you might not want the Hogues.

Has anyone polished parts for smoother trigger pull?

Other than putting 5000 rounds through it (9mm and .22LR), no. It's a very smooth DA.

Have you installed after-market springs?

No, but I did get a steel guide rod.

Mine has Meprolight night sights, a Wolff extra power extractor spring, and a Wolff 17# hammer spring. The rubber grips that come with the gun are just fine.

Did you replace the springs because of FTE and FTF?

I'll check out Meprolight. Thanks for the opinions on the factory grips. I know that CZ addressed the grip issue by puting serations on the P-01 frame.

Mine wears Meprolight tru-dot's, a sweet pair of half checkered coco bolo grip panel's that really contrast nicely with the poly-coat finish and stock everything else. There is no need to go and change your spring's or install an alloy or steel guide rod. The trigger is as far as DA/SA pistol's go quite superb as it came from the box. I'd recomend investing in ammunition and quit worrying about aftermarket gizmos that in all likelyhood are just gonna reduce the little guy's reliability.................

I don't know about night sights and Hogue grips, but I killed two birds with one stone (so to speak) when I put a Crimson Trace laser sight on my P-01.

It is probably my most accessorized pistol, with the CT laser, a Kadet .22 conversion kit, and a very recently added Streamlight. I don't carry it about concealed, but it is the one I grab when things go bump in the night. ;)

It is also a lot of fun at the range, where I can shoot .22 all day long for not a lot of money.

OMG. LOL! That's pretty true, but boring in a handgun that goes bang every time ain't a bad thing, but I hear ya. Don't you know all of us on the Front Range carry CZ-75D PCR's instead of P-01's. We just don't need the light rail. :D

And the PCR fits holsters made for the Sig P228/P229 which are readily available.

CZs have the best accessories!

Are they basically the same thing? Does the 75D PCR come in other finishes? From looking at the pictures the only difference I can see is the slide release comes further back on the P-01.

I don't care about the rail on the front. However, isn't the P-01 better because of its NATO certification?

There is no significant difference between the two. Yes, the P-01 has a NATO N number but the PCR went through very rigorous police trials. Its a very similar gun with better sights and no light rail. I've had a PCR since 2000 and its my daily carry. The finishes are the same CZ polycoat and both are lightweight, compact alloy designs.

The only thing I have done to my CZ P-01 is added Meprolight night sights (pics before I added the Meps) and trimmed-modified/installed full sized Hogue rubber finger groove wrap-around grip panels (the ones that fit the full sized CZ-75/CZ-85 pistols). I guess I should almost say butchered/installed full sized Hogue rubber finger groove wrap-around grip panels.:D Would have been nice if Hogue also made them for the CZ-75 compact pistols, oh well. Hey, the grips might not look too great, but they function good enough for me (great feel).:neener:

I just looked at both this afternoon. The PCR is $15 less. I LIKE the fact that it has a loaded chamber indicator! However, I hate the steel magazine floor plate. I think I'm going to get the PCR then get some P-01 magazines for it. Add the Trijicon Night Sights and blacken the alluminum trigger, and I think it will be perfect for me!

Thanks, Pilot!

I got the CZ P-01 primarily because the rubber footplate on the magazine was more comforable.

I ran ten reloads through it yesterday (Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. w/ 7.5 gr. of Acc. #7). It seemed to throw brass a long way (15-20 feet). Do I need to get a heavier recoil spring? I'm also thinking about a steel guide rod and a recoil buffer.

Do you have any recommendations? The best place to buy?

Congrats on the P-01! On any CZ pistol I buy, I get new +5% magazine springs and the next higher power up recoil spring, for a compact CZ-75 like the P-01, an 18 lb recoil spring will work fine.

Go hear for the springs:

Steve Bedair makes some of the best stainless steel guiderod from what I hear. A lot of Sig people use his guiderods.

+1 on Steve Bedair for steel guide rods. I bought from him for both my P-01 and Sig P220 and not only is the product very good, the communication was excellent and shipping prompt. After having $40 vanish into thin air with Jack Ash Custom, this was quite a nice change of pace.

I also recommend steve bedair. I purchased his guide rod and it fits perfectly.

Shipping was fast.
