Ok here's one for the experts.

I have a Savage model BAS/10K in .308 police model with the accutrigger. Every once in a while after I cycle the bolt, either to chamber a new round from the magazine, or my usual single load into the breech, the silver takeup part of the trigger will be someone stuck and the entire trigger will not pull.

The field remedy is just to cycle the bolt up then down to reset the trigger and it will function as advertised. I was hoping to see if a veteran knows of an adjustment I can make, screw I can adjust, or something to tweak to prevent the trigger from locking. This is a benchrest only rifle and is not used for hunting or HD/SD. It's annoying at worst but I would like a rifle I paid $2k for to work as it should.

Will do, thanks gunplumber. I need to wait for the house to empty since this thing tends to scare people.

+1 on the gunplumber fix. same thing here too, but it was brand new when it happened. I just figured it was a conservative adjustment by the factory tech.

Questions asked by onlookers in order:

Is that a Barrett?
Is that a .50 Cal?
Is that a Lapua?
WTH is that?

Always makes me smile. Thanks for the suggestion and the seconded opinion. As soon as I can get to it and I'll try out the fix.

It's the "cousin" to the one our OP posted. This is also a Savage... but it's a Model 110 BA in the .300 Win Mag caliber, I put a Nightforce 12-42 x 56 optic on it and ran out of cash so settled for a cheap-o Harris Bi-pod. It will NOW shoot a consistent 3" dia 5-shot group at 550 yards prone from the ground on the b-pod. I hunt with this one though. Up to and including elk. Using a very contra-versatile bullet (200 gr SMK) pushed to 2960-2974'/sec I have tables all the way out to 1000 yards and windage to 10 mph 3-oclock so doing the math is easier in between. At 550 yards I'm looking at 10 MOA drop. One turn of the turrent.

It has the accu-trigger, acu-stock, and swear to G.... well it doesn't kick at all. In fact... my .220 Swift (Ruger M77) kicks 3-4 times harder! I can shoot a 100 rounds in an hour if I wanted to and not feel like I'd shot it a dozen times. That muzzle brake really works. My 22 yr old daughter loves it.

It also comes in the .338 Lapua caliber and I'm working with Savage right now to fit that barrel and bolt on it so I can have essentially 2 in 1.

Here's a short you-tube video of me shootin it so you can see the kick or what little there is.

where you located in Nor Cal there Sediment. Near Oroville? Maybe we could get together and shoot these twins out to some decent yardage. PM me if you want to.

Right now I live in central Solano county. My usual "long range" is at the Yolo Sportsmen's Association in Woodland/Davis next to the skydiving place. The longest lanes they have are only 100 yards and I use their trap range as well. Yes there is a shooting range with a trap and skeet range next to a place that runs a skydiving operation. I have been there a few times when the winds shift or a rookie diver misses his landing spot and lands in a hot range. Usually you can hear the screams of terror over the gunfire and the bright yellow canopy lets you know of an incoming cease-fire. I can't make this stuff up :D.

Oroville is a pretty good drive from where I live. Maybe someday in the future I'll be in the area and if I am I'll definately hit you up.

Mine, too.
By the time I got the Accutrigger adjustment tightened to where it would reliably sear up, the pull was heavier than I wanted. So I put on a Rifle Basix.

Did you happen to use a scale and measure what the pull ended up at when the sear engaged properly? Mine is set to (according to my calibrated finger muscles) at about 2.5 pounds.

Bummer you're not closer. I'd love to take you out to the table mountain area and shoot some ground squirrels at 600 yards. Makes for a good tune-up for bigger animals at longer distances. Oh well... the local range here at Oroville only goes out to about 557 yards. Not too bad.

Also, if you have too much trouble with the accu-trigger, savage will fix the problem. Several of their triggers had issues and they replace them or fix them n/c from what I've heard. Those $100 triggers are pretty nice. 4 ounces to 3 lbs. NICE. Even the high end is chep enough if it doesn't give you any issues.

my pull is currently set at 3-3.2#. (digital pull scale) If I take it lower, my heartbeat actually causes my finger to twitch prematurely and set off the round. I found the slightly heavier pull was great to break it clean between beats.
Yes, you can watch the rifle twitch by looking at your target thru the cross hairs. If you can slow your heartrate and catch it between the twitches, your accuracy will improve considerably. THIS is really tough to do when you're in an adrenalin rush state.
