I am looking for a source for bare actions (I will get the built out) - either falling block or lever. I did call Ruger, but they do not sell the No 1 action only. Reasonable prices would help - I have seen some beautiful custom actions WAY out of my league. I thought I saw a link here, but my search skills are not up to the task. Your guidance is appreciated. Thanks

@Dave DeLaurant thanks! A great start! My thoughts are through the 38-55 family (38-55, 30-30, and 25-35 for whatever reason, the 32 Win does not do anything for me.). OK, that means three for me...take care of the wife, three more. My brother may get in on the action, three more. I would love Bradshaw (and others I have seen), but beyond me. Tippman is interesting.

I put a posting up today on FB's American Single Shot Rifle Assn. group asking for suggestions -- we'll see what their collective hivemind comes up with.

Here are a couple of early returns:

Also one fellow suggested using old rolling block rifle actions from Simpsons Ltd., but I think that would end up costing more than the Tippmann RB actions.

I did not know Tipmann was making a Rolling Block. Interesting mutation with coil spring and lug for a stock through bolt (I think that is what the lump under the top tang is.)
Price is lower than anything I have seen in years. But then the rolling block has always been a cheap gun.
I wonder how the quality is.
Their history seems weak, they say their complete rifles are " based on a 45/70 Spanish Infantry Rifle." Well, the Spanish Rolling Blocks weren't .45-70 and the pictures on the Tipmann site are more reminiscent of the No 5 Sporting Rifle.

Instead of three rifles to cover the family of cartridges, why not one with interchangeable barrels?
I know CPA offers a .22 barrel for practice, maybe they would do multiple centerfires fit to one action.

Another bright idea from FB was to give Numrich an old school telephone call (845) 679-4867 and see whether they have any single shot actions available. IMA (908) 903-1200 might be another place to try asking, assuming there are any former Nepalese Army actions that suit your fancy. I would imagine they have beater Nepalese Martini-Henrys with savagable actions they might be willing to dicker over.
