Seems true, practicality and value. I shoot a Savage in a Boyd’s Varmint Pro, with a Vortex. Precise and affordable.

I have a few I like, an old Mossberg 340BB iron sighted - taught many a cub scout to shoot with this rifle, a savage BTVSS with a thumbhole insanely accurate, and most recent purchase, a Ruger Precision Rifle in 22Mag also accurate but I am still figuring out which ammo she likes best - so far, federal Champion seems to be her favorite. All mine adult sized and all fun to shoot. Of course if you like semi-autos, the 10/22 is pretty configurable as you probably already know.

Not adult sized, but a hoot anyway, if you can find a Rossi Matched pair, I have a 22 and 410 combo, they are easy to take along and fun to swap around if you get tired of 22.

That they do. The Cult of CZ can get a little weird, as does the Cult of Voodoo.

Honest question......

what would be a step up from a CZ? Obviously Anschutz. Anything else?

Obviously Anschutz, Winchester 52, Kimber. For me, it will be a Cooper.

I don't consider CZ to be a step up from the 541 in the least.

My post was tongue in cheek. I went to RC for tips on an issue with my 10/22 (where I found an answer) and learned that CZ rimfire rifles have a strong following. I was aware of CZ pistols but didn’t know much about their rifles. I was scrolling through CZ’s website when I saw the 452FS. I’d always wanted a quality bolt action .22 and I’ve always liked wood to muzzle stocks. I was able to find an FS locally and I really enjoy shooting it.

I own vintage .22's and have had many. I shot matches club matches against all brands. I nearly always win with either of my CZ 452's. If anyone thinks a Savage can beat my CZ's I'd be happy to bet and shoot. Now there might be Savages that can beat some CZ's but go to any match with standard sport rifle and check match results. Odds heavily favor CZ's. Also we had a prove it match on here. Savages are very good for the money but like most vintage rifles a tier below. I have a Ruger American that is a great shooter but it is not wood stock. I hear Tikka is very good as well. I have had a Mossberg 44 it was ok and a Mossberg 146B that was good. I have a Remington Target rifle a 540XR that also is an excellent shooter. All the modern name brands are decent shooters with good ammo. But if you can afford an Anschutz that would be the best.

I have an old and somewhat battered Remington 541 (I think) I bought in the early 1970s. I haven't taken as good care of it as I should have and it has not aged gracefully. And the bolt handle is dinky.

I have decided a 'grown up' style .22 lr would suit me better. (Sniff-sniff) So, I've decided I want a CZ 457 American model. 24 (ish) length barrel, wood stock well proportioned, blue steel and a decent sized bolt handle.

Of course getting one will require a certain amount of waiting. I can't find one in the local area. One dealer has put an order in with his supplier to be next or at least in line. Gives me time to consider the error of my ways. An adult .22 rifle is probably not an error, but I have several others to reflect upon.

That would be an excellent choice. I like the blued steel and nice wood on my 452 CZ American as well as winning matches with it.

The 340-series Mossbergs are nice "adult-sized" rifles. I have a 340BB too, and I love it. They pop up on auction sites from time to time, and they're generally cheaper than the earlier, more "collectible" Mossbergs.

Years ago I had the same ambition as the op. I bought a 77-22 the year they came out. I was looking for a 22 that handled like my 77. While not quite like my 77R it was still a nice rifle despite mediocre accuracy. I now have a Cooper mod. 36 I inherited from my dad. That rifle will put 5 shots under a dime at 50 yards with run of the mill ammo. Match grade accuracy in a hunting rifle is a wonderful thing

As a kid I always remember the pre WWII Walther model V rifle I have being a lot of .22 to haul around. That might count as an “adult” .22. When we were dating my wife nicknamed it “the cheater gun” as it easily outshot other .22’s.

It can be rather nostalgic, perhaps even somewhat sad, to thumb through old gun catalogs to see the wonderful .22 rifles once made and now almost forgotten. I have a 1960 Stogers Shooters Bible that listed both Winchester's M-52 Sporting Rimfire and a fabulous Steyr Mannlicher .22 with double set triggers. I looked at that catalogs until the pages were faded but the Mannlicher and Winchester of my heart's desire were priced over $100. at a time when I was saving pennies for a bicycle. Then and now, these are real "adult" .22's.

Nothing is more fun than a nice looking, accurate .22. I took out the CZ 455 for the first time yesterday, and after (half-assedly) sighting in the temporary scope I put on it I shot a few different rounds through it. I was limited to 25 yards (with a front rest) and I got to see what it liked and didn’t like. 5 shots each with no cleaning or fouling shots.



It hated the Armscor and didn’t like the Magtech rounds much either. It did very well with the others (the one flyer with the Aguila HP was 100 pct my fault!) I think with a solid rest they would’ve been somewhat better.

My Remington Model 504 .22, bolt-action rifle (recently discontinued) is adult-sized and, with a 4x Nikon "ProStaff" rimfire scope mounted, has proven to be very accurate.

Mine like quality ammo better too. I mentioned the prove it match. The results clearly showed the relative accuracy of different rifles shooting multiple groups at 50 yards. The top tier was real Target rifles like my 540XR and others. But far and away the best was a Remington 40x. Every shot was a dead center single hole. My 540 XR was shooting small cloverleafs except for a little flyer or two. Time and weather did not permit me trying my CZ's and others.
