Currently I have the 10rd and two of the 25rd mags from Ruger, they all work flawlessly. I added one of the hand cranks to the 10/22 and it is a ball to shoot, but 10 rounds are gone in 2 1/2 turns. The 25rd mags are just as quick to unload. I was looking at CTD and a few other places at the 50rd drum mags but just from what I have read some have had issues both in loading and jams. Anyone have input on best one to buy ??

Well a drum would certainly slow you down loading, and unloading without jams.

So it would be a real money saver on ammo costs.

As for the crank?
If all you want to do is make noise without hitting anything, Black Cat Firecrackers are even cheaper & louder then .22 ammo.

The only 2 reliable mags for the ruger 10/22 is the ruger 10 round and BX-25 mag. All others will just cause trouble.

Making noise, if I want to do that I would not use Black Cat firecracker, I can just set off a couple stick of dynamite. Wasting money now is my main priority to keep the kids from getting it after I'm dead and not even missed. GENNRO your statement is about what I had come to the conclusion about the 50 rd mags. The crank thing was just an impulse thing, I modified a tripod and manufactured all the attachments so the 10/22 will rotate and elevate with ease. My intention is to kill another tree that I don't like and this way is a lot more fun than pulling out a chain saw. (unless I can find a MG42),

I gotta disagree with gennro. I've never really hand any trouble with aftermarket mags. Eagle, butler creek, ramline, whatever. The only one that ever gave me a hiccup was the eagle, but it had hard brittle feed lips that wore out after about 15 years.

That said, I don't know anything about the drum. there is also this: http://www.mwgco.com/ar-15_accessories/product/MWG-022-050.html but I don't know if it works......

Unless they have changed the barrel material recently, you will burn/melt out a spot just in front of the chamber with a crank (hell-fire) trigger.

Changing to a SS Ruger bbl made no difference. Burned a spot on that one too.

The bigger the mag, the quicker.
