I asked a million questions and got a million answers. I talked to guys at The Range and shot their 6.5, 308, and 300's. I watched YouTube videos.

I looked at ammo prices, compared rifles I liked and didn't like shooting. For instance the Ruger Precision weighs 15.2lbs in 300 WIN.

Until I learn to reload which is going to be a while because I work everyday I decided to go with what felt best to me. Savage 10/110 Precision in 308 Win.

Open to all opinions. Thanks for all your help.

Ammo, you're going to burn through lots of ammo!

Save your brass, buy a few different types of quality bullets (reloading) and see what your rifle likes.

Don't be afraid to buy some cheap plinking bullets also. Sometimes you just want to cut loose but want to save the good stuff.

Don’t let anyone fool you. There is nothing wrong with a 308 Winchester. One of the range regulars where I frequent has a pair of these in 223 and 308. I shot the 308 once. His scope weighs as much as the rifle and the trigger scared the **** out of me but it’s a nice gun. I was shooting a mil spec AR trigger that day.

I don’t know if it’s my gun or all guns, but my 308 shoots Winchester 7.62x51 NATO 149 grain M80 FMJ really well. You may try that as a practice load.

I'd say you made a Good Sensible purchase and .308 aka 7.62x51mm is a well Proven Round . The sooner You learn to reload the MORE You will enjoy fine tuning it's ammo and groups will shrink.

Look at scopes , ASK questions and ASK people who use their scopes for your intended purposes . As with all things there are Great scopes and DUDS . IF You are real serious about long range shooting ,spend some serious monies on a QUALITY long Range scope .

One thing there is NO substitute for or work around is , QUALITY OPTICS . If you can't see it ,you CAN'T hit it .

I'll admit I've got some quality glass ,Big Well Known names ,IOR now Valdada , Zeiss to mention two , I also just purchased a Meopta which is every bit as good or better than IOR or Zeiss . Meopta also has been rumored to have Made Glass for those brands . I don't know if that's true or not but their certainly capable of world class optics ,That I am certain of .

That's sweet!

A .308 is never a bad choice and will absolutely sing with heavy tipped bullets, all the while hitting harder than a 6.5 at practical ranges!

Keeping things commensurate - I’d put an Atlas CAL under the front, an MDT bag rider under the tail, a Bushnell XRS III on top, find a factory load it likes, and go print a lot of tiny groups.
While there are other suitable choices of course, it’ hard to disagree with that.

Thank you all so much for all the positive feedback. I really appreciate it. I'm going to throw my Vortex Venom 5-25×56mm on
it to start and as I move further out and get more comfortable I'll upgrade to a better Vortex.

Thanks again all.
You can get a Razor Gen II very reasonable, and it’s a proven performer.

We will, of course, need a picture-heavy range report.
