I was looking into moving to the Boise area, but was a little put off by the minimum age requirement to get an ID permit until I noticed that they recognized every other states' permits.

ID state law, title 18, chapter 13, subsection 12 states:
(12) The requirement to secure a license to carry a concealed weapon under
this section shall not apply to the following persons:
(a) Officials of a county, city, state of Idaho, the United States, peace
officers, guards of any jail, court appointed attendants or any officer of
any express company on duty;
(b) Employees of the adjutant general and military division of the state
where military membership is a condition of employment when on duty;
(c) Criminal investigators of the attorney general's office, criminal
investigators of a prosecuting attorney's office, prosecutors and their
deputies;
(d) Any person outside the limits of or confines of any city while
engaged in lawful hunting, fishing, trapping or other lawful outdoor
activity;
(e) Any publicly elected Idaho official;
(f) Retired peace officers or detention deputies with at least ten (10)
years of service with the state or a political subdivision as a peace
officer or detention deputy and who have been certified by the peace
officer standards and training council;
(g) Any person who has a valid permit from a state or local law
enforcement agency or court authorizing him to carry a concealed weapon. A
permit issued in another state will only be considered valid if the permit
is in the licensee's physical possession.

So my question is, with the wording of the law only giving a minimum age for issuance of the permit, could I just go get a non-res permit from NH, and use that to carry concealed?

It seems like there should be no problem doing it, but I figured it couldn't hurt to run it by you guys.

Most states do not allow a resident to carry using an out-of-state permit, you need to call the state's AG to get his/her opinion on the law.

I already did that(just waiting for a reply), but I was just wondering if anyone here could spot something in the law that I missed(the whole is not required to secure thing seems pretty definitive). It just seems like an awfully convenient loophole.

Oh, darn, I didn't see that thing for NH... I guess that'll teach me to only read the law and assume some bureaucrat won't muck with it :eek:.

It doesn't have to be NH, the way it's worded any states' permit will work, NH just seemed like it would've been the easiest one to go through.

It looks like of the states that issue non-res permits, IA, IN, ME, ND, and NH are the only ones with a minimum issue age of 18.

Now to see which ones would actually issue me a permit :cool:.

Maine requires you to have pistol safety training (ie an NRA Basic Pistol Class) and the permit costs $60- a little more than NH. Otherwise, it should be entirely within your reach.

According to handgunlaws.com it looks like you will be ok.

I had a similar question when I moved from AZ to NM and wanted to find out if I could still carry with my AZ permit as a NM resident. I emailed the NM DPS CCW division and they responded back and said my permit would be fine until it expired, after it expired I would need to get a NM permit.

Doesn't really answer your question I know, just thought I'd throw it in there however.

Yes.

Open carry is legal without any permit whatsoever too, just for your information.
